airframe for 58cc advice plz. Dietrich or Aeroworks
Hi fellas.
After a weekend of carnage[:@], I'm in need of a new plane. And engine...etc...etc.. LOL
I am thinking about an MVVS 58prosport/Evolution 58. It seems that that engine with different pipe setups can kinda "jump" a size or two up beyond 50cc (if reports are correct)
Anyway, my initial airframe for the 58 is down to two, and I'd really appreciate some advice as to which is better for the 58. (or any other advice you care to offer). Likely I will run the 58 with a side dump or a pitts initally.
OPTION-1
Dietrich Extra 260 50cc
87" wingspan
78" length
1392sq
16-18lb
OPTION-2
Aeroworks Extra 260 50cc
85" wingspan
75" length
1270sq
16-17lb
Seeing that the 58 comes in heavier than a DA50 package, I'd appreciate some insight as to which airframe would suit it best.
Cheers,
Andrew.

I have the 58Pro in a QQ Yak massive power which means I fly around on part throttle most of the time with a 22x10 three blade Mejzik, I would go for the airframe with the most wing area for those floaty manouvres.

Yep, checked the Yak. I've owned a couple Extremeflight Yaks. Those and the Hangar9 are very nice planes.
But im an Extra guy.
Have you run the H9/Carden with a 58?

Nope but I will have by the end of the week I actualy bought the engine used off a local guy that had it on the same airframe. He said it had more then enough power and was dropping down to a dl50 for it.
Also as far as I know the mvvs 58 prosport is NOT the same as the evolution 58. The evolution is the same as the standard mvvs 58, the prosport makes even more power and has beefed up insides [X(]

I have never flown a Aeroworks but the Dietrich is a very nice plane and flys excellent and is very well made . It took me only 12hrs. to have it ready to fly and came out at 16.6lbs. with a Dl 50 .

Without question I would go with the Extreme Flight 50CC Extra. I am putting a 58 on mine. AWESOME airplane! [sm=thumbs_up.gif]
Wingspan: 88.25 inches
Length: 87 inches
Wing Area: 1450 sq. in.
Weight: 16-17.5 lbs
Power: 50cc-60cc Gas
It will be 18 lbs with the 58 but has more wing area than either of the ones you are looking at.

Agree with IFly.
I am between the Extreme Flight 50cc Extra and the AW Extra 260, for an RCGF 65cc . Leaning towards the Extreme Flight: a bit more work required, but I like the idea of doing the hinge work. I currently have an AW Extra 260 35cc (FTL 52cc) which practically assembled itself and flies great for my IMAC needs. We certainly are spoiled for choice in this class for the Extra at the moment, not to mention the inexpensive engine options out there. Nice problem to have, compared to just a few years back!

The EF Extra tracks better, snaps better, and is has the least wingloading out of whats being mentioned.
That being said the Aeroworks because it's shorter and smaller tumbles better.. but was more rocky in harriers than the EF. Both 3D very well but the EF does have the edge. I haven't flown the other.
I can tell you the AW on a DA 50 is a rocket.. there is absolutely no need to a larger motor than a 50 in it on a stock muffler. It's very sleek and comes in around 16 pounds. I wouldn't waste a 58 on either of these planes.. and I like my planes overpowered

Thanks for all the replies.
I haven't actually purchased the MVVS 58 prosport yet. Here is my reasoning on it though...
From all reports depending on pipe selections it could swing up to a 26x10mej at 5950rpm, which i saw a vid flying a 35% 26lb edge. I am hoping that one engine can move me from 50cc to 75cc to (possibly) a 35% plane.
My hobby bucks are limited, so I was hoping to get more bang for the buck and flexibility out of the engine.
After all the comments however, I'm starting to think it's not such a great fit for a 50cc airframe. What would you guys do?
Cheers,
Andrew.

I know its hard to do but if you can just pick the size you want at the beginning you will be better off money wise in the end. Think about what you are really trying to do. First you want to put an engine on a model that is basicly to small for it so you can then use it later to put on a model that will be basicly to big for it. Its gonna add extra weight and be over powered on the little model and not have the power you really want for the bigger one, esp if you plain on doing any 3d type stuff with it. There are some good deals on 35% from wildhare and prolly some other venders. I think wildhare can get you in a 35% for under 1500 for engine AND airframe. Or you could do a budget 50cc model with a dl or the like with plains on keeping it for a backup when you are ready to go up to the 35%ers. GL with what ever you decide!

Stay with the 50cc plane of your choice and slap a DA, or a DL in it ( I would go with the DL .... I have one, see vid below )
Go with one of Toms 35% planes from the get go and either put a DA 100 or a DA 85 in it... I would look in the classifieds you can get a great deal on a DA 100 atm.
