I will, Now the only thing I am getting stuck on is this, how hard will it be to instal suspension and steering....I take it not easy because they are two finely tuned parts of a car...

Good luck! I can't wait to see pictures when it starts to come together. It sounds like it will be pretty awesome, but a LOT of work!

Time, don't know, right now is the hard part, I will most likely end up working inside on a computer making a sketch up of it on some 3D program, but so far, it looks rather....easy, the frame will take about 4 hours to build I am guessing, then another few days to get it just right, only thing is, I have no skills welding, no equipment, hopefully I can work on that this winter, but the frame looks like an easy build, I know basics, so a bit of tac wlding at the joints should do, I am happy that I am finally getting to build my own car but there are a lot of things I have to decide, On or off road, or both, I was hoping at first to make an on-road, but a Rally car looks like more fun, I was also thinking about simply making a chassis then you guys decide what to do next! But again, as it stands the plans are being made, the biggest problem I see that isn't the suspension or steering is...the rear axel and motor mount, I think I can just order up a new HPI motor mount or something and use that, if I make a rally car I will have to put a big sheet metal plate on the bottom to keep dirt and the such from getting into the car, but right now it looks like a lot of fun!

As for electrics....I will most likely buy a new set instead of using things from my current cars, I will need a very high power servo and a nice motor, but the easiest thing on the build will be fitting the battery pack, I was thinking maybe having it be a rally car but making the body myself and installing lots of lights....lots of light, most likely...5 LED headlights and then a rack up on top of the car, if you guys want to be a part of this I may set up a site for this thing and I can get ideas from you guys, as for a servo, I am not the big tech guy, all my cars are for onroad use so the suspension doesn't travel alot, how do you keep your steering in tact while having the car go off jumps and such, I mean I know about having the little bit of travel, but I need tight steering but about an inch of travel for the front and maybe half an inch to 3/4 inch of travel in the back....again post your ideas I am going to surf the web.

ORIGINAL: Sprint2Drift

By th way it will be electric but I want to try and build a nitro in the future, maybe when I am done with this I will make another and sell it on EBay....it might sell for a good amount of money.
It might will, but it also might not.I think most buyers will have the thought of access to spare parts in mind when buying, therefore you might ending up not getting it sold at all.You almost have to sell it to "one like yourself" that can make parts for it on his own,and who knows that this takes time and patience to build.I guess this person might as well build his own car at the end instead of buing one.
There are some projects in the RC Giant Scale Cars-forum (well, maybe in the other forums too),i have a project there too,but i havent bothered with suspension.

But it sounds like a funny project you are thinking of here, what scale do you have in mind?

Scale, whats that? No scale at all but if any guesses, 1/8 or maybe 1/10.....not too big! It has to be electric remember....but you bring up a good point, but the whole thing behind having to get new parts is usually because old ones break, if somebody makes one not some guy in china who doesn't really care if it breaks or not, most likely it wont break, I just want to see how this goes, and eventually maybe if I get any good, make them and sell them with spare parts....sort of just for fun!

I think bouncy oil filled suspension is important if you want to do jumps and some off roading.
Definately try sourcing it

Well I thought about it, the suspension isn't the hard part, I know I will not be making my own, I will buy shocks, but the thing is steering with the movement of the suspension, I want the car to be able to handle big air, but handle a crash, main reason behind making it myself, my friends RC Rally car wasn't great, well neither of them were, he bought one, it worked great for about a month, then it snapped, the main chassis snapped in half almost the plastic couldn't take it, same with his other car, I also want to have fun building it, right now I am making some adjustments on the prints, first of all, the first thing I know was a bad idea is having nothing in front of the actual front of the car, now I put in a new frame, basically just a rectangular box that goes in front of everything else, so if indeed I do crash the car and roll, which I know I will, the car doesn't get touched, the sheet metal body will take most of the impact but if you are going fast enough, who knows. Next thing to do is get ab actual roll cage on the car, the chassis will be a simple box design, an area for the battery, servo, ESC, reciever, and motor to rest safe and secure, but the problem is, if you take a sheet metal body and put it on top of a box chassis, flip the car and hit a rock or something, your body is dented badly, most likely resulting in you taking it off and repairing it exstensively or making a new one, another thing is, sheet metal is....sheet matal and like any kind of thin item, it will rip or tear, imagina a sharp piece of metal riping into wires on a car, not good. So a roll cage is a nice thing to have, problem is having a good one that you can take off, I have ideas on how to make one. So for now the roll cage will be a simple frame structure of the car with reiforced areas to help support the car, Now I am really thinking about gas because it will be a lot of weight for an electric motor to keep moving and going off jumps!

Yeah im running nitro. It runs really well. It has alot of power for my 1:10 scale car. What scale are you thinking of.
My engine is a .18cxp team infinitie. But that may not be the sort of thing your looking for.
For doing jumps. Look at strong arms up front and at the back. one crack messes up your car. I know!!!! lol
Depending on the scale of your car, youll have to look at the sort of length you want your wheel base to be.

Well I was looking at this http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKYU8&P=7 Looks good for my uses, I was thinking about reverting the exhaust to the back of the car from the side, but other than that, I really do not have any idea how to work these things, if anybody knows about them, what exactly do I need to keep it safely in place, I can TAC weld and I am trying to switch into a metal shop class for the rest of the year to work on this thing, but for now I will be building the frame in my garage, the only problem is, well the engine seems to be missing some things that look sort of look important....lots of open holes....well could use some help here guys, from what I can tell the skinny silver tool that comes out from across the pull start is the drive shaft, so am I going to hook up a gear to that or something, and that will mesh with a gear on the read drive axel, that is my theory, I must do much research eh?

You put a flywheel and clutch onto that silver bit, then a clutchbell on that ( that has the gear on it).

This is really going to hurt me to say ( i love nitro) but you will get much more tourqe out of a brushless motor than a nitro engine. is brushless an option? it is in most cases rathe expensive.

This project is fascinating, i will be sure to keep watching

Good luck!

Well, what do you think will get me off of jumps and speed and such on road, I will be using the car on and off road so....what should I use!

And I need a strong set up to keep it running because if it isn't from like HPI or somebody it will be most difficult to replace things I think....

Well electrics will have more tourque, and more speed. Nitros sound cool lol. but in a custiom car electric seems the way to go untill your confident enough with rc to setup fuel tanks, exhausts throtle servos etc.

Well, for a 1/8 maybe a 1/5 car which is now more realistic and I bet would be a lot more fun I mean if you could build a car, would you build a 1/10 or a 1/5? I have heard bigger is better, but maybe not, I will contemplate tonight....

1/5 will be allot easier to build your frame and chassis because of the size you wont be working with tiney little tubes.. i have attempted this befor but never followed through i got to the chassis and engine.. i still have it kicking around somehwere well anyways good luck

I agree a 1/5 should be easier to build, but I've never built a working car thought. Im a modeler.
The engine you chose looks pretty good.
Remember 1/5 will bring in bigger crowds.

NAO, I want it I offer ya 65 for it if it's straight up gas, I don't want to mess with that nitro stuff, gas is fine by me, so I have to go check back later!

And yes, 1/5 will be much easier.....and more fun I hope.

yeah its a chainsaw engine... only problem there is i dont know where i have it right now i think its in storage.. but to sprint you mentioned that you are not a welder... depending on what you decide to use as materials you can always get the couplers and stuff and screw it all together with some heavy threadlocking stuff or drill it out and use bolts.. adds a little weight but saves loads of trouble if you dont know what you are doing

Well, my friends dad is most likely going to teach me or help with it, I finally got an idea on how to make the rear suspension work along with the drive shaft, so all I need now is the braking, anybody have ideas I really need help with that, and I thought it was like a car engine for these things sorry....
