Default Momentary Push Button on 12X

We have recently had a numebr fo request to change out the flight mode switch on the 12X to a momentary push button as was on the 10X. For some odd reason there are people telling owners of the radio this can be done. These people have no affiliation with Horizon Hobby or JR radios. I can assure all of you this is not possible. The software will not allow the change.

We do have a software upgrade which will make the trigger switches at the corner's of the gimbles work as an on/off button with just one click. No longer do you need to hold it one way or the other for operation. This software upgrade allows the trigger switches to be used either way as you choose.

For those of you who lived on this button for smoke, I understand your frustration. Hopefully this software upgrade will help out.

One other note for 12X owners. Please do not open the case of hte radio to check something out or such. If when opening the radio you do not follow a very prescribed program you will damage some of hte PC boards which pulls the traces off the boards. The end result is close to a $300 repair bill to fix the radio.

Take care,

Weather or not you need the update will depend on how old your 12X is. Turn around time is very quick. Buck, it is time for you to upgrade!!!!

John,
I do not know if I need the push button feature, but maybe you can help me out or point to someone that can. How can I start the count-down timer when I throw the throttle-hold switch? I would love to do this on my electrics. Can I do this with some programming?

PS I flew the Beaver on floats at a charity event and it was a big hit. The slow fly-by with full flaps, low over the water was a crowd pleaser. I am awaiting your next Platinum Series warbird! (My vote is a flap/retract Hurricane or F-86 in 25 size).

Tclaridge,

I don't know how to activate it with the throttle hold, but I can help you activate it with throttle position if that will help?? I set it up for my turbines that when I go to full throttle, it activates the timer.

SinCity, I know how to activate with the throttle stick, but when I go to idle, it stops the count down. I do not want this, as I want to time the flight and not the throttle-on time.

Enlighten me, i've been flying my jets with a modded Heli version 10x but recently got one heck of a deal on an aero version, the only temp push button on it is the snap roll/trainer button.............how are you using this for smoke on off?

EDIT: Never mind, figured it out!!!

What about a firmware upgrade that enables putting the trainer switch somewhere else besides the two gimble switchs? It's got to be one of the most uncomforting things to hold, not to mention if your gonna do it on a heli then you have to turn off either the throttle or pitch trim.

John-

My LHS just received a 12X last week. How can I check to see if it has the latest version of the software?

Thanks!

I have the same question as Mark above. Mine is a fe wmonths old and I already had to send it in twice: once for a broken antennae (arrived that way) and second time was for the throttle detent.....

I saw a post here regarding making the "trim" switches on/off, I don't remember if that was something that had to be held or just "triggered". I like my 10x button for brakes!

Anyway, if anyone can calrify that would be great or I will likely ask that HH check mine too.

thanks
Dave

It is just one of the setting on your timer. Go to your timer screen and adjust one of the three or four settings. When I get my redio back from Horizon this week, I can tell you exactly which one you need to change.

If your hobby shop just got one it has the new software. The only 12X's that did not have the current software were a number from the initial shipment. A fair amount from teh first shipment had the new software. There is a manual addendum you can download from the Horizon web site explaining how to make the trigger switches on/off with one click.

Perhaps future versions should be modified to be able to display their firmware version info on-screen, so that people can easily tell which one they have.

That's kind of what I was hoping for....

John
will the software upgrade make the trainer switches off/on when using a buddy box, it is a pain trying to hold that switch down for 8-10 minutes. Or is there a way to move trainer switch to another off/on switch.

Thanks
Freddie

Timer problem solved. OK now I just feel silly. My throttle hold is set to the mix switch. This makes a great engine on/off switch. Then I set the timer to the Mix switch. Problem solved! I was too caught up in trying to trigger the timer with the throttle.

Got my transmitter back. You are taking the long way around.....Turn the "One Time" to ON....it is OFF by default. That will solve your problem and get rid of the mix.

Hey Chad,
When did you send yours in? I haven't gotten mine back yet and they should have had it in hand on the 12th Fedex.
Starting to wonder where it is......but then again......Black Cloud...what else.......or where else is it

Mark,

They RECEIVED mine on Dec 3rd. I got it back last week some time. I think you have a little bit to go. You can always call them to check on the status. They were always friendly and helpful when I did.

Chad
