Ok, Now i have a decision on a radio 4pk futaba, What servos to use ? Does digital have a place in boats or is it not needed. Quarter scale for steering and a throttle servo. What do you guys recommend. The boat has a 755Hb in it and a HS311 for throttle, But they seem slow to me. But i have been playing around with helicopter servos that are very fast. What should i buy ? Or just run these seem ok !

If you're looking for the fast servo, the digital servo is the way to go, I'd recommend a 5475HB for the throttle and 5645MG for the rudder.

Thank You ! I do want digital but i also need a 1/4 scale for steering, Neither of those are 1/4 scale.

Also i looked at a futaba 1/4 scale digital at tower hobbies and it was slower than my HB755, I lmost ordered it but there it was 0.28 slow !

Im needing to buy a steering servo this week. And while we are on the topic, whats teh differences between the digital and standard servos? do you need digital radio gear to use digital servos? Also what servo would you recomend for me? 40" mono with zenoah. 1 rudder. my radio box doesnt cater for 1/4 servos

Most of the high precision servos have "Coreless" motors & direct read potentiometers while having fast cycling rates.

In a boat, you really DO NOT want a fast servo because it only makes the boat more jittery too input from operator.
We need smooth output and internal strength to deal with all the vibration boats are subjected too.

Well said Scott. And please stay away from digital. Those things sniff water, they pack-up. And boats are expensive. I use the JR 597 which is a 9kg servo and I turn my avenger in its tracks with ease. 1/4 scale is sometimes over kill look at your horn and push-rod setup. Try to stay close to the servo centre and all the strength will be there.

I think with a 4Pk you need to use a digital servo, i don't think the Rx can handle analogue servos. Read the manual (destructions), it'll be in htere.

The 4PK, like all Futaba FASST systems, works just fine with analog servos. You simply set it to "PPM" mode. If you set the radio to HRS mode then you need to use digital servos. Digital servos can also be used in PPM mode, but analog servos cannot be used in HRS mode.

I mostly use digital servos and have never had an issue, even after a good dunking. I use standard size high torque digital servos. Never had an issue, even in blow overs.

I ordered the Hitec 5745 1/4 scale digital, The centering ability is much better than the analog servo. And yes the 4pk will do both. Also Hitec claims this servo to be water proof, Don't see why i would spend $500.00 on a radio and put $20 servos in the boat. The WHH Team pro is set-up for 1/4 scale steering as you may already know. So i went 1/4 scale for steering. I am sure it will take much more to damage it, than any standard servo. The gears are much smaller, Even in titanium there weaker than a 1/4 scale servo, with karbonite gears. Of course the HS5745MG is metal gears and one nylon. Also it takes a few more gears inside a high torq standard servo to achieve the same torq as a cheap 1/4 scale. I know some of you already know this, But in my opinion 1/4 is the way to go for larger boats that weigh 15lbs or more.

The Team Pro weighs 18 pounds with the dual rudder for steering, no matter what you need a high torque servo for it, can't wait to see her run and have fun.

WHH can probably just use 2 standard servo's! Don't sweat the small stuff.

I'm just saying it is not what servo you run, it is more in the set-up! My AC Wildthing uses a standard servo for steering, runs over 50 mph and my mate borrowed it for State titles a few years ago and came second. Driving and set-up will get you there, what servo to run is all in your set-up. You are the only one that can detirmine your set-up so you need to decide what servo. I have seen plenty of guys run Hitec 805's in boats and wonder why their failsafe kicks in or their batteries go flat, over kill is as bad as under sized!
Specific servo's are just an Opinion, unless you post pics of your linkages you may as well be asking "how fast will my boat go"

I ran all stander digital servos on my boats and had no problems for steering, 1/4 servo is a bit over torque for his rudder but it is not a bad thing for his boat, I used to have a 39" rigger that was bought from ebay there was a 1/4 scale servo in it, believe or not, it worked excellent.

No worries of my batteries going flat, I purchased a 4500 mah lipo rx pack.

Common sense really Mike.

Where the physical connection is made is all important - it's all levers.

I like standard case size Futaba S3305 servos for steering - anything else for the throttle and trim tabs etc - they are not that vital.

Go for the Futaba S3050 for the throttle (waterproof)
and the S5050 1/4 scale for the rudder. I use this combo on all 5 of my race boats. Wonderful digital servos...

Not sure where you got the idea that the 3050 is waterproof. Futaba does not list it as such. And they do not call any of their servos waterproof, they use the term water protected. The 3050 is a great servo. I use the 3152 for throttle. Still a good digital and much less expensive. About $20 less than the 3050.

I use the 9156 standard case servo for rudder. 340 in-oz of torque and a very strong gear train. It is "the" Futaba servo for giant scale planes and mine have proven solid in boats. Even a couple of 75mph+ blow overs have not hurt it.

Sorry Silent, I meant the S5050. It is indeed waterproof and has rubber gaskets between the case halves and splined output shaft.
I had it sit underwater for almost an hour when my cat flipped and I couldnt get to it and it remained dry as a bone inside. Great servo.
water proof or water protected...is the wording really that different? If its "protected from water" That says to me that water cannot get inside. So Iguess the word waterproof can work as well. You may not see it that way but its all good. it does not let water in, so either play on the word will do

Looking for servo recommendations to drive the rudder on gas weedy, 52” mono hull deep vee, homelite 26cc engine. I am newby and do not want to spend too much, they range from $25- $300. I just want to make sure I am not make a big mistake.
