Default RCS SV 26 questions

Anybody out there have one of these engines and do you like it. How does it run and is it reliable most of all with decent power?

Thanks for any info...

I have the SV26 which is the same engine under different name and former distributor HobbyCity. With some tuning of the high speed needle the engine is turning 8700rpm as advertised, I love this engine. It power my 25% Extra 330L. I'm running a 16x8 on 25:1 mix with good success.

Looks good so far. Just haven't got it mounted and ran. Dooley said break it in on a 16x8 and then move up to an 18x8.

I have one that I've run on the bench w/32:1 mix. Got it from Hobby City before RCS got the USA distributorship and ran the price up around a hundred bucks. It started easily, ran well on the factory needle settings. One of these days I'll find plane for it.

Thanks guys.... I have a Goldberg Sukoi that I am going to start soon and was thinking of going with a small gas engine. I really don't want to go any bigger plane wise due to storage/transportation issues. I was thinking that the SV26 might be lighter than the other gas engines in it's class and not be too heavy for the project. I'll have to measure everything out and see if it will fit in the cowl at all. What do you guys think?

SDM, I have a kit built Goldberg Sukhoi that I like alot that is powered with a Saito 150. I just checked the specs of the SV26 at RC Showcase and I'll give you my thoughts on your situation. My Sukhoi weighs about 11.5 lbs and the Saito swings a 16/8 APC prop at just under 9000 rpm. My airplane flys really nice but it is NOT a "floater" and requires a decent amount of speed on landing or she gets a little snap happy. Not bad but you have to be on top of it. The SV 26 weighs about 1.25 to 1.5 lbs more than the Saito and turns about 500 rpm less than the Saito. I don't think I would enjoy my plane nearly as much with all that extra weight and a significant loss of power. I think that airframe at roughly 13 lbs would be a handful and diminish the amount of pleasure you would get if it was lighter and more powerful. I love my gasoline engines more than anybody and am trying to "phase out" my glow stuff but if I were you I'd look for a good used Saito 150 to cut costs (They are getting expensive) and save the gas engines for the larger airframes. This is JMHO and others will vary. Good luck with whatever you decide on as the Sukhoi can be and is a fun little airplane

Bass1 I am tending to agree with you after looking at the Sukhoi kit plans and instruction manual. They call for a 90 2st or 120
4st and I was thinking that there is alot of room in there for a small gas engine. Power is an issue as we are at about 4500'. Although not all that high I do notice a big difference when flying at lower elevations. I had a ST 90 in my GB Extra and it flew fine but not as good on vertical as I would have liked. I will look closer at the Saito 150 also.

mrbigg I did as you suggested with the measurements on the SV26 and it looks to be a bit long for this application unless I modify the firewall and fuel tank compartment. I think I may stay with a glow engine for now ...

Thanks for everyones input
Sam
