Default TRX 2.5 Problems

Recently put my truck back together and I have been having problems running my motor. This is weird to me because I did not change anything in the engine. I cleaned it off with some simple green and some Q-Tips and that is it. The idol is really high even with the idol fully reduced, honestly I think it is a problem with the linkage, could this be the source of the problem? My brakes are really messed up too, I will pull the brake and nothing will happen, the servo will move, but there is no brake applied. I need to tinker with the set up. Does anyone have a top down picture of a T-Maxx 2.5 so I can see where the little set screws go. Another problem I have been having is that the pull start is almost impossible to pull. It will pull once or twice, then get really tight. The only way I have been able to get it started is so loosen the glow plug and let some of the pressure out. I have to leave the glow plug loose until it gets running then quickly tighten it back down. What would be causing this to happen?

Any and all help is appreciated!
Sorry I kind of rambled...

Thanks

it being hard to pull is usually cause buy a flooded engine or maybe your engine is all gunked up if you haven't ran it in a while. Try to take your glow plug off and pull the starter with the car upside down to clear it out. Also use the traxxas website. They have an excellent FAQ page and also all the pictures and diagrams you need.

Yea, I did that, it did not work... not flooded. How do I know if it is gunked up? How do I clean it?

Well, like one or more of the others already eluded to; the cause of the pull start being hard to pull could be because the engine is partially flooded, or because there also could be something messed up with the spring/mechanism inside the pull start casing . As for the high idle; well, that could be caused by your throttle/brake servo linkage not being set up properly, but it could also be caused by a air leak; If u have already checked the linkage and it looks fine, then I believe its time to check for a air leak(s)...

Well, one thing u might also want to check; is to check the carb to make sure somehow some dirt or fuel "sludge" or "Residue" did not work its way into the carb and dry itself up. If I were u, I would carefully, completely take the engine apart, piece by piece, then throughly clean out the crankcase and engine case inside and out, top to bottom by soaking it with some denatured alcohol and letting it sit there and soak for a few hours(give or take) or even better, let it sit with the denatured alcohol in it overnite until it dries up completely or otherwise. THEN, BEFORE u put everything back together, coat all the moving parts(crankshaft, connecting rod, etc.) with a very very light coat of after run oil to initially re-lubricate everything; but remember, ONLY DO A VERY VERY THIN COATING of it, then carefully re-assemble everything, and try to start it and see if this does anything to help out the problem. Good luck with it man and just post away with any more ?s u may have and I or anyone else will respond back.

Good idea, but I am not sure I am confident enough to take the entire engine apart...

Well, just look at your owners manual and look at the exploded views of the engine diagrams there; that should show ya exactly what parts go where.....

Take your time. You should never have parts left over from working on engines.

i think it's just your linkages. fix those and then try starting it again.

Its possible he could be right; it could just be the linkages, but if its not, I would go and check some of the things that were already mentioned previously....

Ok, I will... Do you think that it might just be a problem with the OWB with like build up? How do you clean that?

Spray it with wd 40 to clean the OWB. I too would suspect the truck is probably rich if after a couple pulls its locking up. The brake should be placed in the middle of the 5 holes on the servo horn. Get rid of the spring on the brake if you have one and use fuel tubing . Try leaning the lsn a little to see if it will crank.( I'm a cheater) If so put need back to previous setting and Lean the hsn till it starts. Then retune. From HSN to LSN then Idle. You want smoke at every throttle pull and no bogging. If I confused you a little pm me and I'll clear it up. Go to get you running Super. Wish I was still in Duval enjoying the weather like you.

Yes, it could very well possibly be something as simple as the one way bearing having too much "blow-by" fuel residue fuel on the bearing and/or the shaft on which the bearing sits; in which case u should take it out and clean the bearing and the shaft by soaking the bearing in denatured alcohol for a short period of time(like maybe an hour or 2 give or take) and spraying/applying some den. alcohol onto the starter shaft; then re-applying a very light coat of after-run oil to the one way bearing and putting some on the starter shaft as well....
