My .15 T-Maxx project
First off let me say this will be a very slow build. Ill just have to update with pictures and info as i go, but some of you may like to follow it if you like working with an older truck. There should also be plenty of pics and video.
I have a .15 max that i have had for a while, and I havent ran it in a long time. Probably 3 years. I got to tune, and run a nitro r/c last week, and the bug bit HARD since i havent had a nitro in a long time[8D] I decided to start fixing this truck up. I had taken the frame and cut some of it out and drilled holes for things(electric conversion) so the frame was pretty rough on it. The transmission needs a new input shaft, and i need a couple of driveshafts, a fuel tank, a motor, and a few other small things. Sith Lord on here is sending me out a new(used) .15 frame, aluminum chassis braces, and an RPM skid plate Saturday. Ill have pictures of it when all that gets here. I have a stinger pipe that came with the truck that I plan to use. It may be a couple months before i get a motor, but i plan to have the truck in pretty good shape by summer if all goes well[8D]
I think I am going to be getting a Himoto sh.18 engine for it, and I will probably be using a pull start on it, and keeping the stinger pipe. Although i like the looks of a side pipe better, so if i find one for cheap, or find a way to stick the stinger on the side, I may try that. Im not looking for a power house, just a quick truck that is reliable and fun as heck to drive. I would like to convert it to a wide maxx, but will probably concentrate on getting it running before i get around to the suspension. Then i may pick up some stock widemaxx arms for cheap on ebay.
I really cant wait to get it running. There are some skate ramps at a park around here, and I think ill do some jumping. I also have a good stretch of where i live since i live on a culdesac for some high speed runs, and i live on a farm, so there will be plenty of hills, and dirt running to do

RE: My .15 T-Maxx project
Should have a few parts in a week or so. Ill have pictures then for sure
Probably go to the hobby shop in a couple of weeks to get some more things i need.
Basically going to try and build a reliable basher. I dont beat mine real hard, so nothing extreme. Anyone have any tips on things to do that are cheap but effective for helping this baby stay together?[8D]

RE: My .15 T-Maxx project
Thanks guys
The motor will probably be the last thing I go about getting since i know if i have a new motor waiting i wont be able to finish the truck before im wanting to drive it
Once i get the new chassis, chassis braces, and skid ill get some pics with and without the body on. Then once i get a new input for my transmission and some new center driveshafts ill mount up the transmission and put the servos back on. I have a hitec 645mg for steering. I also need a fuel tank, and ill mount the battery box back up too. It should be pretty well ready for a motor at that point except for a few odds and ends.
I rebuilt the rear diff not too long ago so it should be ok. The front has held up good so far too, so hopefully it can stand the nitro power.
Depending on what kind of tax return i get, I may have a motor sooner than i think

Pretty cool looking truck there trx1; especially for a 1st gen. maxx!!! Sometimes I wish i still had my 1st gen maxx as well; but its long gone now as all I have left is the old chassis(no other parts except chassis)....

RE: My .15 T-Maxx project
Alright, got some pictures, and some parts on. She looks a little better
I have a picture of my old frame. You can see why i couldnt use it. Actually the motor would mount solid, but it wouldnt slide all the way across without one bolt not having anything to hold onto.
I have a picture of my Forward only t-maxx tranny to go in it. It currently needs an input shaft though, since i reversed the output side of the input shaft for another project i was gonna do with it Really wont take much to have it back to how it should be though[8D]
I have a picture of some fuel line, fuel filter, and brake disc i have waiting.
And I also have some pictures of it assembled with the new frame, and new chassis braces. It currently has an E-Maxx transmission in it geared real low for some crawling. It looks like a clutter, but nothing is modified to run the setup, just a few zipties to hold the battery, and esc down. Once I get the input shaft for my t-maxx transmission, and some new center driveshafts, ill stick the t-maxx tranny and driveshafts in, and put my bottom RPM skid plate on. An interesting note is that the e-maxx transmission hangs down farther than the t-maxx tranny. The RPM skid plate wont fit on with the e-maxx transmission in. I also have to pick up a few fine threaded screws of different types so all the screws for the braces and skid are right.
Like i said, this will be a slow project, but it will get there
Now for the pictures...

Pretty much, I tore it down to bare chassis, and never bothered to do anything with it after that; at that point i decided to get a revo instead of trying to rebuild my old chassis.....

RE: My .15 T-Maxx project
Well, I picked up a used 2.5r with only 3/4 gallon through it. Looks to be in good shape and has a nice big aftermarket cooling head on it too. All it needs is a pull start, and header. Got a stock 2.5 pipe in the deal too Hopefully the motor is a good one. Guy said it ran good, so if it will run for even a couple or 3 gallons, it'll be well worth what i paid for it.
Getting closer all the time. Does anyone know what brand of head this is? Looks like i will have video of this baby running soon! Thanks!
