I am trying to decide between the two as well. I like the telemetry of the S, but I am concerned it will break too easily. Price is not the main issue.

The R has a lot more functions as well to tweak control. Personally, I say if you can afford it and are planning on racing the R is the better choice.

The R uses DSM2, which is a little faster, but more importantly, more reliable as far as range goes... if you can afford it, go for the R... Im going to be getting the S only because it comes with the LST XXL

I am using the DX3S, bought for 1 month already. So far so good and I am very happy with it. Last time I use to have a 4PK, sold it because I no need so many function.
For a backyard basher like me think the S version is more than enough for me. Some more it come with 2 receivers, that made me save some $$ also.

RE: DX3R or DX3S ?
ABS is all marketing hype. It is a pain in the butt to get setup correctly and when you finally get it setup right you realize that turning down the brake expo give you the same results, lol. ABS doesn't work because true ABS needs sensors on all four wheels that can detect lock-up and modulate the brakes accordingly (which our scale models will never have due to the complexity it will add to the car/truck). Plus, in off-road racing locking up the tires to swing the back end around in a tight corner is actually a good thing so real ABS would be counterproductive in tight cornering situations.

I wouldn't get either until they come up with a fix for the weak scroll wheels. I can't change any of the settings on mine. And don't want to wait for it to be repaired, just to break again.

RE: DX3R or DX3S ?
I haven't heard of one breaking a second time after being repaired.... What I heard is that a tech told someone calling about a broken wheel that some of them were installed at the wrong angle and that why they break....
I haven't had a problem with mine... Most of them that I have heard of breaking broke pretty soon after purchase, which supports the "wrong angle" theory.......
