Anyone use beadlock wheels?
I really like the look of the Traxxas Summit wheels. I know nothing about beadlock wheels. What are the pros and cons of beadlock wheels? Has anyone put them on thier Savage? If so some pictures would be nice. Links to these or similar wheels would be appreciated.

Pros are there is no gluing. You just lock them in so you can change tyres over and have one set of rims. Not sure of cons. But I think they are much better, if you glue a tyre wrong then you are stuffed but with these you can just fix it quickly.

Cons: You have a crapload of crews to deal with and have to be carefull not to strip the plastic. Each time the bead slips out you have allot of work ahead of you.

I use MAximizer on all my trucks and love them. I never had a problem and have changed tires many times. They are tough. And if it does break you can replace the broken part instead of the whole wheel.

RE: Anyone use beadlock wheels?
I personally use ProLine Commado Bead Locks on two of my Savages.
Pros: they weigh much more and thys have a very high moment of intertia, which is very good for controlling the Savage in midflight. I can pitch the nose up and down with ease. Additionally, they are actually really tough, the beadlock screws really clamp down on the tire bead and I have never torn a tire off a rim, even with two engines turning the drivetrain hard and on dry grass with great grip. Additionally, I can change the tires without the hassle of ripping off the tires by baking, boiling, or CA glue debonder.
Cons: they weigh much more and thys have a very high moment of intertia, and that very same property kills acceleration and adds weight to the entire RC. Changing tires is a chore as you have to unscrew so many damn scres, but I still consider that a very minor inconvinience as compared to baking, boiling, and/or CA debonder

My bro ran Maximizers on his S-maxx and he had the tire bead come off the rim a few times. Soooo many screws to unlock I felt bad for him. Personally, I'd skip the hassle and buy a set of cheap rims for my tire sets.[8D]

RE: Anyone use beadlock wheels?
its really not that many screws, c'mon screws are a normal thing to deal with when you are in this hobby and tire glue is a pain in the ass. I wont be buying any beadlocks untill they make some lighter. SSOCH.... I'd be weary with heavy tires on a Flux because you will make the ESC draw more power IMHO.
I do think I might get the beadlocks for my slash though... they just look nice

The Maximizers are only 8 screws per wheel. Way easier than the Axials. The MAximizers are also 1/2" offset which makes teh truck alot more stable.

I really like the Big Joes on the twin engine one, really gives it a MT feel. The bow-ties are more or less multipurpose, but not as good for any specific terrain.
Since these are beadlocks, I am thinking about getting some more conventional MT tires. (Though I am happy that I do not need to deal with glue, I kind of am not looking forward to wrench-turning to unbolt the beadlocks)

SavageJim,
I use a small cordless craftsman screwdriver with a Hex bit on the end. It really saves the fingers. I install them the same way but only do the final tightening with my hands. Only takes about 15 min to do all 4 with the cordless but takes an hour to do it by hand.

The only place I use them is on my HPI Baja 5B SS 1/5 scale as that is what it comes with. As far as my Savage I do not run them as they are just to heavy. To be honest I rather glue then use bead locks as it is much faster even with my palm driver.

RE: Anyone use beadlock wheels?
I don't have the whole process of ungluing tires. But it involves boiling water and submerging the tire to melt the glue. I don't know if you want it to be completely boiling or if that's too hot. And there's also the issue of the foam inside getting wet. You'd have to dry it right away.
