no, the mini mgt is a 1/10th scale whereas the regular MGT is an 1/8th scale. The mini has a .18 small block on it, and the regular MGT has a .28 big block on it. If you are looking to spend less than $300, I would get the mini mgt. Tower has it on sale for 219,99, but after the 20 dollar rebate, and shipping costs it will be 204.99 to your door. I purchased one about a month ago, and I must say it is an awesome truck. It outhandles my t-maxx, and it just runs better. I would HIGHLY recommend it.

pretty much but on a smaller scale. ANd some of the parts are different. But from what I hear it's tough and reliable and it's about 190 off of tower!http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXSUN0&P=0

I don't want to hijack this thread, but could you guys giving recommendation also give good prices for used versions of what you think is good? I'm thinking about trying out a nitro car but I'm going to have to buy used/eBay/forum marketplace. Thanks.

The Mini MGT 3.0 is nothing like the MGT. They look similar in body, wheels, etc but share nothing in common, in fact the Mini MGT 3.0 is a thunder tiger truck branded with the Assocaited name. Thunder Tiger owns Team Assocaited.

Actually all of the MGT's from the 3.0 to the 8.0 are thunder tiger trucks. They all have Thunder Tiger engines, they are just marketed through associated. If your new to nitro I would agree with Chris, buy new. It will only save you headaches down the road. Buying used could possibly turn you away from the hobby, with all the problems used RC's have. From my experience, the product is never as described, mainly the engine. Good luck with your purchase, whatever it may be.

RE: Good offroad nitro under $300
^ Correct. ALL of the MGT lineup are Thunder Tiger trucks, not just the 3.0. They're also not totally different, they have several similarities besides the body and wheels.
Anyhow, I would also suggest a MMGT 3.0 from Tower. MMGT's are durable, fast, and easy to run. Since they're so cheap right now you can also buy the replacement parts you will eventually, and inevitably, need. Get it from tower and buy a set of upper and lower a-arms(front and rear a-arms are the same so you only need one pair), and get yourself the rear bumper rings. Those are about the only things that really break from what I've seen and you have to land or crash somewhat brutally to break those, but you will.
Nitrotane fuel and/or O'Donnell fuel both seem to run great in the MMGT. If you step it up to 30% nitro you get even more power from the MMGT too. In fact, with 30% it's about the perfect amount of power, not too much or too little. Stay away from Blue Thunder and Top Fuel nitro.
Lastly, I TOTALLY agree with Chris that you should definitely buy new for your first nitro. Buying used RC's is often more of a headache than it's worth anyway, and if you're not familiar with nitro you're probably going to get frustrated and hate it. Buy new.

RE: Good offroad nitro under $300
I stand corrected, I was under the impression it was just the 3.0. I had one at one time and it was a nice truck, that is when I researched it and found it was a thunder tiger. For $219 that tower wants its a nice value.

RE: Good offroad nitro under $300
I to have the MMGT and it is a tough little truck. I have beat mine to death and broke nothing. My body is all beat up, as well as my under carage. I even jump mine quite a bit with landing that don't really go that well. It's my first truck and I am glad I bought it.
