tmaxx 2.5 upgrade to 3.3 or sell or repurchase new
Like to do something with my 3 year old 2.5 tmaxx. Looking at the following options:
1.) Sell 2.5 for a couple hundred dollars and buy a nice 1/8 scale truggy (Total Cost ~ $500)
2.) Upgrade 2.5 to a 3.3 and update drive train (Total Cost ~$ $200)
3.) Put a new 2.5R motor in (Total Cost ~$ 100)
I tired a friends 1/8 scale truggy and it was really fun. This would be my first choice but it is a lot of $$$ to spend on a once a week bash session.
My concern about upgrading to the 3.3 is by the time stuff stops breaking I could have almost got the 1/8 scale model.
The 2.5R sounds like the best option but I am getting a little bored and not sure I will want to keep it for another 3 years.
Please let me know what you would do if you were me... or what you did when you were in my situation

I did a 2.5 to 3.3 upgrade. After A-Arms, axle carriers (you need these for oversize 3.3 driveshafts), 3.3, 3.3 spec clutch, chassis, etc. it is almost a wash and I used eBay for cheap and used parts. I was into my 4908 Maxx upgrade to almost nearly the cost of a new one when it was done. I would vote for #3 if you can hang on.

Personally, I think that your guestimate of getting $200 for a used 2.5 Maxx with a questionable motor is a bit over optimistic.
I'd keep the Maxx running and start saving for the other vehicle you want.

Been there done that. I owned a 4910 T-Maxx powered by a O.S. .21 Engine that I upgraded with the 4908 tranny, axles, driveshafts and tires and wheels. Wasn't really that much money to do it. At the time I couldn't afford a $500 1/8 scale so I just went ahead and did it. It was a blast and a fun experience to build it and modify the parts.

Id go with the truggy. I just sold my Maxx for a 1/8 scale buggy which is very similar to a truggy and the durability of the buggy along with the speed and handling really makes it a blast. I liked my maxx, but i was always breaking something. This buggy is really tough and i havent broken a single part on it yet, despite landing it bad a few times.
Find a nice truggy in the classifieds for about $300. Just look around and you can find one in good shape for around that price and you will really like it i think. They are very durable, and fast, but you wont get any wheelies from them if that is of any factor for you.
I would have kept my T-Maxx, but it seemed like i broke it a lot by small accidents, so i decided to get rid of it and my rustler and try something else, and i ended up with the buggy. I would have rather had a truggy, but for the price i couldnt of had a truggy, so the buggy it was
I have an MT and a buggy, and i really like being able to chose between one and the other. [8D]

nice looking rides cummins. I always enjoy upgrading an modding my vehicles. It gives you a good shance to get a feeling and understanding for your rigs. If it were me I would upgrade. you have to ask yourself if you are willing to spend the time or would rather just run a rig

Thanks Mike!
It just depends on what you want to do pretty much. If you feel like spending the money on the upgrades then by all means go for it. I just felt like my Maxx needed way more than i wanted to put into it to make it worth keeping, so i let it go and moved onto a nicer ride. If you like to modify though, then for sure upgrade the maxx
