Reaction 54 - new paint
One of my projects over the winter was to refinish my friend Jim's Reaction. The paint was a little, shall we say on the rough side so I offered to get a bit of gloss on it. I stripped and re-painted the entire plane as well as finished a new wing that incorporates updated landing gear. Today was the re-maiden for it as well as my maiden, so it was all the sweeter to see it fly.

RE: Reaction 54 - new paint
Hi Matt,
I already had the Prolink small nose gear on the airplane. I added the Prolink mains over the winter. Because the Prolink mains are 1" longer than the stock gear and has a .25" offset I decided to build a new wing (thanks for the wing kit Bruce!). The model sits low in the front now which makes it want to "pop" off the deck now but I think it lands better that way. It looks like it ride like a Cadillac on the grass now.
Dan (Split S) did a masterfull job of striping it (I believe by hand with sand paper) and repainting it. I am sure that the model is faster now also. Thanks Dan!

RE: Reaction 54 - new paint
The jet was stripped with paper, no stripper. If I don't know exactly what is underneath I hesitate to go the chemical route. Especially over glassed balsa. The paint is all PPG. DBC urethane base with DCU2021 clear. The clear was reduced at 4:1:2 vs. the standard 4:1:1. Iwata LPH 80 gun. Sanding for polish was with 3M 1500, 2000 and then Trizact 3000 by hand. 3M Extra Cut compound by machine finished with 3M Ultrafina glaze, again machine applied.
