Composite ARF FLASH delaminated skin
Hello,
Bad luck this week-end with my CARF Flash.
The pin of my left main gear broke and the wheel leg damaged my flap.
The skin of the flap is delaminated in the articulation area, foam is separated from the fiber layer.
Is it possibe to use thin CA glue in betwwen the foam and outside fiber skin or there is a risk to destroy the foam ?
Do you you have any idea to fix this problem ?
Thanks for your help.
Alain

RE: Composite ARF FLASH delaminated skin
Alain,
I've used foam safe CA around the openings of the gear wells on my carf euro w/o any issues.. but on your flap, i think a thinned epoxy resin (or Z-poxy finishing resin) may be a better choice... I haven't had any experience w/ repairing spots to the extent of yours on critical surfaces though, so maybe someone else may have a better recommendation.

Alain,
Sorry to hear. The Behotec gear 6mm pin snapping is unfortunately a well known issue. I had the same problem with my Scorpion and several people experienced this with flashes. You can replace the 6mm pin with an 8mm harden steel pin. This mod is very easy and will make sure it doesn't happen again.

RE: Composite ARF FLASH delaminated skin
Hello,
Thank you all for your help.
I do not understand what happened,my landing was smooth with low speed.
Normally pin bend not brake like glass !
I suppose it is a Carf defect part.
I will try CA because during the cure time I cannot press both side of the skin.
Have a good day.

I use stock Yellow CA on things like this.
The pin only normally breaks if the flats are cut with sharp corners. I broke a early set, then ground the flats with radius ends and never broken another set even on grass

Alain, I have seen one break in flight when the gear was retracted! So clearly, the pin is stressed during landing, gear up and gear down and eventually breaks. I believe in Dave's theory since the my pin started to break at the flat. Still, I'll stick with 8mm pins on my planes.

i used blue loctite on the grubs and pins and didn't grind any flats, never had any problems but after seeing someone else rip a flap off when theirs broke i drilled my mains out to 8mm, again with no flats and no problems.
