old school t maxx questions
ok i bought my son a tmaxx first gen i believe. it has the .15 engine. his buddy down the street has a 3.3 new t maxx and my son is ticked that his is faster. i really dont care what it costs i want my sons to be faster. i was thinking of putting in a os .18 motor. i dont wanna do a traxxas 3.3 because of the tuning nightmares ive read about. any motor ideas would be appreciated. kevin

RE: old school t maxx questions
If you really want his truck to be compettive with the 3.3 Maxx then sell the Pro.15 one and buy a 3.3 Maxx or Revo. It won't just be the engine you'll end up replacing. You'll need to change out the suspension to go to the wider stance, you'll need to upgrade the driveshafts and diffs, you'll have to either get a compatable ez-start system or learn to deal with an alternitive like a pull start or shaft start system.
By the time you change out everything that you'll need to to make his compettive (not necessarilly faster than a 3.3) you will have spent as much as a new truck anyway.
Don't get me wrong, the Pro.15 Maxx is a good little truck but to make one faster than a 3.3 is a lot of time, money and effort. IMHO, more than the end result is worth.
If you just want to make it faster than it currently is - not compete with the 3.3 - then look at the OS .18 CV-RX. That is a good, reliable motor, an upgrade over the .15 and does not require a ton of mods to the truck to get it in. I've got a link somewhere to "Misbehaven's" web site that goes through a step-by-step how-to on putting that engine in a Pro.15 Maxx but it's on a different computer. I'll look later and see if I can find it for you.

RE: old school t maxx questions
thanks for the info. im a newb with rc. i think most of the fun would be to do it with the old truck. can i put 2 motors in it? like i said i dont care what it costs. its going to be cheaper than my addiction to racing mustangs. wifes happy i have a cheaper hobby to do. can i widen the stance on the old t maxx? i just dont want to buy a truck already done. i believe that building it urself is alot more fun than pulling it from the box as im sure u understand. how about a .18tm motor? is it alot higher hp than the crv. sorry for so many questions. thanks alot

RE: old school t maxx questions
indeed you can widen the original maxx as well as put in a bigger engine. Like previously stated though, it will cost more than a new truck. To me building the rigs is most of the fun. I have built a few rigs piece by piece, and i preffer it>,gives you a chance to become familiar with the rig in a deep and mechanical sense. If there is anything I can help you with, PMme

RE: old school t maxx questions
well it would really help to give it some gas to burn out the extra fuel in the carb. however if it keeps cutting out from bogging...then ur HSN is set too rich. might want to lean it a bit. then if ur idle is too high richen LSN. first adjust HSN. then play with LSN. keep in mind the more u richen HSN the more lean the LSN is going to be. if u lean the HSN.......the LSN is going to be getting less fuel so it will require a richen. ....so therefore HSN first then LSN.

RE: old school t maxx questions
ok a new problem. wow this thing is frustrating. I could pull the cam out of my car faster than i can get this thing running right. Ran great the other day. well yesterday i start it and it starts fine, then it goes about 20ft and then stalls. It does this as soon as i give it some gas, sounds like it bogs down and then just shuts off. I have tried going back to stock settings and adjust from there. no luck. I have a lhs that i can take it to and have it looked at. I just hate doing that. Im a real tinkerer and its beating me down. I am getting a new motor this week but i dont know which to get. I either want the .18 crv or whatever or the .18tm. the hobby guys said that the tm is a race motor. hell i thought that was what we are after. lmk what you think thanx Kevin

If money is not an issue wny not just get him a 1/5 scale gasser (HPI Baja, ect). Less work tuning and it would be tons of fun for him. The kid down the street would be real jealous of him then.
