Revo 2.5 rear diff problems, but no broken gears?
My revo is a Revo 2.5 that has been converted to electric just so you know. Basically I traded my t-maxx for this thing and I put a mamba monster max in it. The first run it started skipping when I accelerated, and it's only gotten worse. I turned up the reverse power on my controller and started driving in reverse, it's fine and really, just hard to control. I took apart the rear of the car thinking the gears were completely destroyed, and they seem to be just fine. So what could be the problem, and is it possible to shim the diffs?
Thanks

Alright, I think I found it. It's the steel forward only conversion right? I can't find it for the 2.5 revo, maybe the 3.3 fits? And I think $100 is a lot to charge for something like that...

its mainly cuz of the machine and manufacturing time involved. im a machinist and machining small parts can be a pain in the ***** and take up some time.
you spend like $30 on stock tranny gear sets, then to replace the 1st gear set is like $10.

Now I just need to figure out If the 3.3 tranny fits in the 2.5. If it does I'm buyin from tower, if not I might order from another website, although I don't know any other trust worthy sites.

alright I just took apart the center tranny and there is not 1 not stripper gear, they dont even look worn. Now that I think about it, the rear diff did look kind of worn, but I dont know if it was enough to matter. Anyway I did find some broken parts near the spur gear. Dont exactly know what they are called but it was broken in 2 places and very worn. And the pinion is kind small so it doesnt mesh perfect, but it meshes good enough. I will include some pictures of the broken parts, but I doubt it had a thing to do with it.

If there were no broken parts in the tranny then I wouldn't bother upgrading. Just replace the slipper clutch(thats what broke) and go from there.
Edit: it doesn't look broken at all. Just really worn down. Replace it anyway. Sounds more like an electrical problem then a mechanical one.

check your rear diff ring gear... if the teeth or wore out enough they will seperate and skip every time you hit the gas.

Alright I will replace the slipper. I'll check out the rear diff again, it's skips so much it's almost stupid. I mean the noise it makes is just so horrible. And then I drive in reverse and all is good, nice and smooth and no clicking at all.... I will check it out again.

You have the problem showing in the picture. Your slipper clutch is shot. The cracks you see in pics 1 and 2 are causing you to loose tention on the clutch pads and you are grinding away on the hub in the center. When it starts to slip the metal will get hot and expand. This will caouse it to lock up and transmit power. Once it stops slipping it will cool off and contract which will cause it to start slipping again. The process will continue untill it wears the center hub down to the point where it no longer rubs and then the clutch pads will start slipping because of a lack of tention from the broken hub.
Hope this helps and best of luck.

That actually makes sense. I accidentally touched that thing one time and it was HOT. The temp said atleast 170. Should I get the stock one or get a beefier one? Any suggestions?
Thanks

I might think about something stronger if it's avalible. With elec. you don't have a cetrifical cluch like a nitro engine so the slipper cluch is taking all the beating instead of sharing the load. The down side of upgrading is it 's an easy to get to weak link and the stock parts arn't that expensive to replace when needed. I'd rather have a spare rebuild kit around for the slipper than have to keep a large stock of tranny, drive line, and diff. components around.
Just my two cents
