I had one when it first came out.
I liked it , but a little hard to tune, and the transmission was always craping out.
I sold it and got a savage.

Yeah, he must be talking about an MGT .21. The 8.0 is all steel and the only way to break it is by being stupid and shifting from forward to reverse while under power. I love mine, but I've had a couple of issues with it. I excuse them though because I beat my 8.0 VERY HARD!!!!!!! For the most part it always takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. One word of advice, don't let the motor suck sand through it!

NO.
I owned my MGT8.0 for 1 week and never even got to lean it out from break-in.[:@]
Had a bad front bearing seal puking fuel out and the engine never got hot enought to cause damage to the seal.
I now have 6+ gallons thru my Savage XL K5.9 and am happy as can be.
Trans is all original.[sm=biggrin.gif]
(I have seen several guys shred the 2 speed pins and/or take 1/2 the teeth off the metal gears in the 8.0 trans.)
(And not from hitting reverse, when you run a FOC it's not possible...) [sm=shades_smile.gif]

RE: Are you happy with you MGT 8.0?
Im happy with my MGT 8.0,insane torque and power,Even with a rich setting on all needles the power is great.Im thinking about installing sway bars though.Yesterday the starter shaft and bearing fell off the engine.it wasnt hot, somehow the sleave for the starter shaft fell out.I pressed it back in and wrote A/E about it.The engine has maybe run a gallon of fuel,I start it with a 18 volt DeWault drill though, maybe my drill caused it.Tires are too soft

There is an updated backplate for the AE pro .50
That was a big problem on the early 8.0's.
I'm sure AE will hook you up.

RE: Are you happy with you MGT 8.0?
I would buy a different engine myself.
Alot of guys run the LRP .30
Or you can get the 8.0 sleeve pinched by Ray A Racing for like $20.

P.S. If you want to sell the 8.0 for cheap I know a guy that would prolly buy it.
Rate the helpfull.

RE: Are you happy with you MGT 8.0?
Yea I know another guy that press's the sleave smaller also,But I think I'll go with the new piston and sleave. You can pinch them smaller atleast once but The liners are coated, the pinch is gone due to that coating and piston wearing out,So if you pinch it,yes its tighter but that coating is worn away,In most cases a chrome coating. But if your balling on a budget......$20 is a quick fix,lol
