WINGS Warbird Invitational, Lubbock TX
Hey Guys,
The 2nd Annual WINGS Miniature Aircraft Society of Lubbock, TX WARBIRD INVITATIONAL is almost upon us (Sat/Sun August 8, 9, 2009). Just wondering how many Jet Jockeys are planning on joining us for an outstanding weekend of flying? The event is being held at Abernathy Municipal Airport (NOTAMS issued OK - little or no full scale traffic) which is about 20 miles North of Lubbock. The runway is 75' X 3000' long and boasts an asphalt pit area, taxiways to the runway, and 6 protected pilot stations. We've already had several Jet drivers (waivers required) plan on coming, and are looking for more. The event is restricted to warbirds of all types propulsion, but must be in military colors (please, no Reno racers in civilian colors, or Ugly stiks in Eindeker crosses). This meet is a tribute to all the military aircraft that have flown in military campaigns in the past, so bring your military marked jets, props, etc. and come have a great time. Many prizes for the pilots, trophies for Best of Show, Best Scale Flight, and People's Choice. Noon line up for spectators, plenty of food and drink on site, and a dutch treat West Texas Steak feed on Saturday night.
The weather is forecast to be in the low 90's with the wind down the runway (10 mph) from the South/SW.
Make your plans now, and if arriving early (Friday) someone will be there to meet you all day. Plenty of resturants and shopping in Lubbock for wives and girlfriends if they wish.
Hope to see you this weekend for a great time.
