Default Flying Dragon

Hi Everyone.

Just got myself a Vee Hull from a local boater. It needed a paint job badly, I think it looks much better now.
Got the Hardwares and Radio Box from Wharehouse Hobbies, but the Strut is locally made of Stainless Steel.

I need help in getting a Strut Bracket, can anyone advice? I also would like to know how much power
i would loose if I were to use a WTC Header. Cos the current 105 header does not allow the hatch to be installed.
I dont want to cut the hatch after such a paint job. Any advice or suggestion?

Tks 3ns

As far as the brackets for the strut, you can make some out of a piece of angle ali.

It depends on what type of WTC you choose, a two piece design will often be too long for the engine & you will loose rpms from the engine. A 1 piece setup will suit you better & you can get them to run as well as a 100* header design. I have a 1 piece setup on my sport hydro & it runs over 117 kph no worries.

I attached a pic of my WTC pipe on my hydro & a pic of the strut bracket on the back of my cat.

hope it helps.

Hi mate. tks for the photos. I've thought of making a strut by myself but not sure how long it has to be. I've been looking ard on struts brackets and there seem to be various sizes.
How far should the rudder be from the Prop? Cos I've seen some where the prop is inline with the leading edge and some where the prop is in the front of the leading edge. And finaly some where the prop is behind the leading edge, so I am confused what is the rite way to go.

I think I'll go with the one piece WTC setup, seen it being sold here in a LHS.

Once again tks for the photos and suggestions, appreciate it.

The leading edge of the rudder should be about level with the trailing edge of the prop on a mono. The bottom of the rudder should be about 1.5 inches below the prop.

Here's a side on view of my monohull.

Mine is set up to be just inside the engine rail. Some people like them closer, some people like them set up in line with the rail, but I wouldn't go any further out than the rail.

Hi.

Just an update on the build so far. I've decided not to use the locally made strut cos feel it's too heavy and
will need good reinforced bracket. So got a stinger drive made for this boat by the manufacturer. will be using
bicycle break cables for the throttel linkage, this is my fisrt experience with this, so not too sure how it'll hold
up. I got the pipe from another local boater, it's seems it's made of steel. Now just need to get the rite size cable
and she is ready to get wet. Will be running her this weekend if all goes well.

tks

Very similar if not the same hull as my Lynx.fast hulls, tricky to set up but look good on the water.
Tiny adjustments on the trimtabs can make massive differances to ride performance.
Mine has since had some fitted.

Hi Brod.

Yes I do think it's the same hull being sold by different names.

The same boats running here are doing very well. Infact there are more local boaters here geting the same hull, we currently
have about six of these hulls running here. A few of them run with 105 header combine with 2" BH Hanson pipe and the others
have the China made 1pc WTC pipe, both setups are doing well. Most of them are running a prather 275 prop, which I'll be using
too.

So now, just waiting for the weekend to come.

Hi everyone.

Been running the boat and having fun till the last two weeks. Broke 2 pipes at the same spot,
not too sure what is the cause, i am thinking it's the quality of the pipes and their welding.

Any thought or advice would be much appreciated.

Yup id say bad welds BUT..that pipe at the top of the pic shows to have been badly overheated..that could be whats causing the welds to fail you better check the carb settings looks like your engine is running way to lean to be producing that much heat at the header

Tks for the info. Thought there might be something more to it. I've noticed the cooling head is also hotter than
before. I will check on that on my next run.

Btw, would there be more power loss if I were to use a WTC header and a tuned pipe set up?

tks

Is there a soft isolater on that pipe mount or is it metal on metal? If it's metal on metal you might be getting a lot of vibration which along with the heat is causing the failures.

Tks dicko.

You are right, it's was metal to metal.
I have a new set of the same pipe, this time will have some rubber isolater
in place.

What should be the right setting on a CY 27cc engine. I am sorry but am new to
this gas engines and the engine I have was set by the earlier owner. So not too
sure how it should run.

tks

Yes the above guys are right.
make sure the pipe is aligned well with the rear pipe holder too. There must be no strain on it when attached at the back.
Put a sleeve of rubber inbetween the rear mount and the pipe.
Heres mine with the rubber.

these make good power with a silencer fitted on them, use a 100 or 105 degree header pipe with it.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/stainless-stee...4.c0.m14.l1262
easy to adjust tuned pipe length too.

I know what you mean about the cutting the canopy lots of times, best to plan the type of pipe at the start of the build.
WTC should be ok for sport boating.

Hi.

I opened up the engine to have a look at the piston and found some burnt marks on it. Looks like I've been running too lean. I ran the boat last weekend with a different setting, it was running ok but not as good as the previous week.

Btw, wat is the differance if any between having a tall thin Rooster tail and a shorter thicker tail? The reason is that my boat
runs with a thin tall rooster tail while the others have a much smaller one. And there is no differance between 3/4 throtel and full.

Anyone can enlighten me?

tks

tks brod.

Now, I am running a 105 header with 2" band pipe set at 13". I am still learning the ropes
on how to get the rite length. At the current length, there is no responce from 3/4 to full throttle.
