Default Reno Air Races 2009, Jets

I know I was one of the few west coasties that missed Fresno Jets this year ( aaaaahhhh!) But I did have a good couple excuses, if there ever are any for this sort of thing. 1 -Reno Air Races during the week and weekend, there was that conflict; many friends in the business were in town, going, etc. 2 -a couple other lifetime events going on that had the weekend toast

So for those of you who enjoyed Fresno, good on ya, wish I could have done the same. But for those who wanted to also go to the races but didn't, here is a short video I compiled on the jet action and the Blue Angels at Reno this year. Youtube can be slow at times for big files (like this), you might have to pause it if it hangs up and play after a delay depending on your connection.

Fantastic event ! Great video and soundtrack! What make/ model is the black jet? The T-tailed white jet? Name of the band and song of the last soundtrack? Thanks for sharing.

Glad the vid was fun to watch fellas

I know there are way more talented guys here on RCU so I'm just a hack, but I'm really loving the learning process. As Uncle Joe knows too I've made a couple flicks previously about the glider club I fly with. I suppose a lot of guys here on RCU have inspired me to try this stuff out, thanks guys!

Gordon is right, the T tail jets are L-29's. The "mostly" stock L-29's are "Delphins" and the black L-29 is a "Viper". The Viper has a big engine, a faired nose cone and a few small little aerodynamic touches. The Viper is faster than any stock L-39 in the race course especially as it has a lighter wing loading and holds it's speed under G loading well like a stock L-29 but that bigger engine puts it over the top on speed. A friend of mine owned a -29 for a few years. Bought it for 40 grand, but every time he flew it it cost him 1000 bucks to just climb to altitude!

The music was Eric Johnson "Righteous" for the first guitar tune, then Collective Soul with "Better Now" and "Hollywood".

The L-29s were very fast this year. Would have been nice to see that F-86 race though!

Best three days I've had in a while. Amazing aircraft and flying. I particularly enjoyed seeing Nemesis NXT. Beautiful plane and spectacular sound. (pic not mine)

Eddie...I don't think we've seen a higher quality, better produced video here on RCU! Truly.

And darn it, IMHO, coulda been the PERFECT jet-video, too, were the music more occasional, muted, and/or in the background. Rather than generally intrusive and drowning out the good sounds.

Apologies.....you guys know that's just me and my usual bit#h w/ otherwise great stuff posted here. (Yeah sure...do my own. My stuff would all end up on anyones' editing room floor !)

Ray
