Default Blue Angels, Snowbirds and RC Jets (?) at Miramar October 2-4

Hi guys,

First time for me to see the Snowbirds, looking forward to it.

Anyone going? Anyone flying RC Jets this year? (Joe)

Paul are you filming?

Regards,

Yes Matt. Both myself and Mike Anderson will be shooting all day on Fri & Sat.
Hope to see all you guys out there. Hopefully things cool off just a touch between now and then.
It's probably 95Ëš-100Ëš on the tarmac at MCAS Miramar right now. It's about 85Ëš here 2 mi. directly west.
They used to hold the airshow in August...incredibly hot out there, dragging kids, wagon, cooler...argggghhhh. I do miss those days though.
Since moving it to Oct., it's been perfect. Even need a solid jacket for the Sat. Eve. Chalet bustin' activities.

Always look forward to Miramar.

I'll be there at least one day. Not sure which day though.

The Snowbirds are a great team but the real impressiveness of their display is generally lost on anyone not a pilot. They're flying a VERY underpowered trainer and keeping 9 aircraft in a tight formation. If you've ever done any formation flying at all, you know what I mean.

It tends to be a little more loose than say the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds.. but they put on a hell of a show.

Sounds great, we have gone the past couple of years, hang out in the beer chalet, it is good for the kids (not the beer but the umrellas and tables are perfect for them). I will wander down and try to find the RC guys this year. Are you all set up behind some security?

We will be at the end of the grand stands on the East side.

Look for a big white tent.

Saturday is the most popular day. It also looks like it will be one of the coolest days 72-75 or so.

i hear the chalet's are pretty good.

The Airshow itself is free.
You can buy Chalet tickets and/or Grandstand tickets. Otherwise bring a folding chair and sit with the crowd (tough day that way though).
Looks like all the Chalets are sold out for Saturday. http://www.miramarairshow.com

Stop by the RC tent and say hello.

See you there,
Paul

I have some business in San Diego next week so I'm coming in on Saturday and planning on attending on Sunday. Let's see if the Califorina Jets guys can fly anything like the GA Jets ones! Should be a great show!

The only RC flying on Sunday is 8-9 AM. This is more about RC in general. Doubt we'll see a plethora of jets...other than full-scale.
If you want to see Cali Jet flyers flyin'...you need to come back to an event.

Enjoy your visit to San Diego.

Hi,

The Semper Fi chalet has food and free beer but I think it was sold out all 3 days. It is usually pretty packed as it is also most people hospitality tent as well.

The Flight Deck chalet has food and a cash bar, it was sold out for Sat (probably the best day to go for weather), it was not sold out for Sunday (temps in high 60s but maybe clouds/low show). This is the one we usually use.

Show up early and bring ear plugs.....

Hey

I'm going on Sunday. Got Semper Fi Chalet tickets a while ago. I'd be bummed if there weren't any jets flying on Sunday cuz I'm taking a bunch of my students (teenagers) there at 8 specifically to see RC Jets. Anyone still gonna be flying their jets?

Awesome weekend at Miramar. Great job by the Miramar RC Flyers club and thanks to all the pilots who put on a great show.
Huge number of spectators on Saturday. Most I've seen in many years.

PS...The Canadian Snowbirds are cooler than you might think.
The Blues, as always...way off the hook.
We were fortunate to witness the last Jato blast that Fat Albert will make at a public airshow, during the Sat. night twilight show.
Good times for sure.

Chad, We were told at Paxt this year when we did a show there that they have retro-fitted new engine/Prop combo to where Fat Albert can now do just about as good with-out the Jato. After seeing the demo we agreed.

I got to the show around 10:30- 11 and didn't leave until after the great wall of fire around 9pm. I had a great time and it was nice to see the rc side of flying well represented.

They had a tough act to follow... being right after the blue angels!

You tore it up Jeff and represented the large scale jet genre well with the 1:6 Skymaster Dutch F-16.
Love that new LED AB ring! You did a fantastic job of flying in that tight of a box.

General observation...the average person is drawn to cool looking models. Static received a lot of attention this year.

Look forward to '10.

The Skymaster 1/6 F-16 is one of the best flying scale jets I have ever owned.

Looking forward the some footage....
