belt or drive shaft?
I have an Associated TC4 right now. I started looking at the new TC5. Inoticed that it has belt drive instead of an aluminum drive shaft. Is this generally better, or is it more personal preference?

RE: belt or drive shaft?
All modern TC are belt drive for a reason. Belts are more forgiving as far as handling. Shafts have a tendency to torque steer with higher power motors. Shafties have gone the way of the DoDo in competitive TC racing.

RE: belt or drive shaft?
i love shaft driven easier to predict what the car is going to do, belts as stated above will torque steer for example the traxxas 4-tec a lot of power but good luck going straight off the line when i had my 4-tec i got the d-box and that took care of the torque steer. but overall its personal opinion.

RE: belt or drive shaft?
Bashing, Drifting for fun, General Running for the hell of it = shaft drive.. Works well. Low maintenance.
Competitive Racing = Belt Drive. Higher maintenance, Smoother, Better Performance overall.
I personally like shaft drive because i dont do any serious racing. I've seen belts chewed to pieces after running in a parking lot with small pebbles etc..
So for me and where i run.. shafty works best.
its all about personal preference.

I'm going to echo what Adale said. The shaft drive system takes a bit more power to spin over, but it's more reliable and for bashing or parkinglot racing, it's a better choice. If you are going to be on a prepared track with no rocks or pebbles, then the drive belt will be fine.

I like both, they each have their place depending on what you're doing.

more of the same really, i see belts as being more efficient than shaft drive, but i should think shaft drive would have less chance of failing if your running on unprepared surfaces.. though my (aramid) belt drive hasnt been bothered by severe off road debris..
