Default ZDZ 80 single, Bisson pitts muffler. Best prop combo?

I was wondering which 2 blade prop will give me best performance. 3D is the goal.

Thanks

Hi Smokey: I'm running same eng and muffler. Eng isn't totally broke in yet but have try'd - Menz 26-10 ultra, found it would fall out of some manuvers, Menz 24-10 S flew great , good speed, unlimited vert, good 3D, last weekend tried Biela 26-8 and it flys great to, speed down a bit, good 3D, need a bit of throttle for landing. Only had a couple of flights with this prop so far but I think this is the prop I'll stay with. Have eng in Hanger 9 Extra.

Smokey,
I have a ZDZ80 on a H9 SU31. I am using a Mejslik 26x10 (6400 rpm). Forward speed is good, so is 3D.

Has anybody tried to cut the tips of the muffler for better rpm? I am hearing that this muffler is a bit restrictive.

Deadstick Don.....Have you tached the engine with the Biela on?

Hi Smokie: No I haven't tacked it, I'm more concerned with how they work/fly than what RPM they turn. Next time I'm out flying I'll tack it and let you know. I usually have cut the chokes of the pipes on bisson mufflers, makes a bit more noise but RPM is usually up 100-200 RPM as well. I've made inserts if I'm at a field where noise is an issue

Smoky, I cut the tips of the bisson off and gained 300 RPM while others claimed it made no difference...although slightly louder without the tips....I have tried 4-5 different props and found a Menz Ultra 24X10 @7000RPM to be my favorite for 3D on the H9 33% Cap....I'm also in Denver when it's 90* out, it's really like flying at about 9000 feet....

Mine pulled a pro zinger 26x10 to 6300 at sea level, muffler uncut, dont remember the temp that day.

I now have a MenzS 26x10 for it, will try it tomorrow maybe. I have also cut the pipes on it now.

I use a J&A Pitts, but have found the Menz-S 26x10 works great for 3D. I have also flown it with a Mejzlik 26x10. The Mejzlik flies the plane (H9 Cap) faster, but the acceleration is not as good as the lighter Menz prop. Either prop has plenty of pull and control for IMAC. I have also used a Menz-S 27x10, slower than the 26x10, still plenty of pull, also good for 3D - when you chop throttle the plane almost stops dead in the air.

smokey, let's see....Bambula 24X10 @ 6300 - very good power, but not quite as responsive as the Menz Ultra in a hover, Mezjlick 26 X 10, also good power (don't recall the RPM)slightly slower, Bambula 26 X 8 - terrible performance (forgot RPM), flew it one flight and sold it....seemed the Menz Ulrta had the least amount of wing rock in a harrier and was the most stable.....it is expensive, but you need to keep the tach in your flight box, try a few different props and see which is best for yur type of flying and airframe combo....steal one off your buddy's ZDZ 80 while he's charging....that's what I did

Default msc 25x10

i've run Menz S 26x10 , Mejzlik 24x12 3 blade and MSC 25x10 on my ZDZ 80/ KS canister powered Hangar 9 Sukhoi.

Here's what I have found:

The Menz S is my least favorite, It flys the plane "slow" and Steady. It spools very quick and is a good 3 d prop. It is the loudest and easily rips at wot. 6700rpm

The Mejzlik 24x12 3 blade gives the plane alot more available speed, doesn't brake as well as the Menz but for flying sequences I like it the best, also gives the best vertical performance of the three. Very quiet as well- no prop rip at all. Worst 3d of the bunch- very slow to spool. 7100rpm.

The MSC 25x10 is my favorite , it's the happy medium between 3d and sequence flying. If u lay it out beside the Menz , it's the same size in length and a little wider on the blades, the hub , however is much wider and might require u to trim your spinner cutouts.

It gives the Sukhoi good airspeed and vertical, excellent downline braking, spools up quick, and is almost as quiet as the Mejzlik , no prop rip. 6000-6100rpm. Big drop in rpm from the Menz so even though it looks to be about the same size ,it is obviously alot more load.

I have flown it probably 15 times since cutting the pipes. I think it has helped a little, but I didnt notice a day and night difference on mine. Hoping to head out soon and try the menzS

I just put two flights on the sukhoi today with the menzS26x10. Definately a great prop for this engine! Instant throttle response. Great forward speed, everything was great. The prozinger is a spare now.

The menzS didnt make my wing rocking in a harrer any different, not that I thought it would but read someone mentioning that one time..

Cool, i'm glad that prop worked well for ya. Do you have any special mixing for doing harrer's?

not really, just alot of elevator.

I have tried spoilerons, and it just comes down a little faster, nothing seems to help the wing rocking in a harrier though

Why not, I broke mine in on the pro zinger 26x10, and this one is better.

Default props for zdz 80

Hi guys: Weather crappy last weekend - never made it out flying to check rpm on Biela 26-8, maybe this weekend. With all the comments about props, just for the hell of it I think I'll try the Menz S 26-10. It should be interesting, I figured it would be to much prop and haven't considered it until reading that others are using it, or are they/you using tuned exh. system as well? I could see that giving it the extra power for it. Anyway I'm going to try it and see what happens. Back later.
