Default Thinking of Savage XL 5.9

Hello, I'm thinking of buying the Savage Xl with the 5.9 but was told to pull that motor and sell it on E-bay and buy the LRP30 with Ofna053 pipe , do any other mods have to be done? will that LRP just bolt right in and i'll be ready to go? or will I have to change gears ETC. Please any advice would be great. PW

Just remember...don't know if you're a nitro newbie, but you'll have to transfer the air filter, clutch, flywheel, and clutchbell to the new engine.

New to cars and trucks! Done the Airplane thing. That can't be that hard can it? Or should I forget about the 5.9 and go with the 4.6???????

I have the 4.6 and it is great, but the XL is more stable on the jumps and turns.
If your are going to stay in the hobby you will have to learn to do stuff like that all the time.

I have both, and simply put, most hop-ups that you will do to the X sooner or later, the XL already has.

I have done some bashing and had it on a track; I think it does great either way. I have run 3 gallons trough mine so far, knock on wood……. There are a lot of peeps who run the LRP30, if something happens to my 5.9, that’s what I’m buying. Plastic parts are holding up also. HPI has been great to deal with; they sent me a free diff set. I would buy another one if I had the money.

Hey Bro,

I blew mine up the other day (5.9) SUCKS.... But, I have an extra one ( you can never have enough parts ! Anyway on the LRP.30 can the pull start be replaced with the roto from the 5.9 and how much better is then the 5.9?

Also, what type of fuel are you running in your Savage XL and at what %? The rod came right out the side on mine and don't know why. The rod broke up by the piston.

Thx

Can somebody take the backplate off an LRP30 and take a picture to show ThunderbirdJunkie?
He needs to know something.
And yes, this picture will let ThunderbirdJunkie know whether you can use an HPI roto on an LRP30

That's the closest that I had. Not sure if you wanted the back-plate itself.

That's exactly it, thanks!
ThunderbirdJunkie now needs to order an XTM backplate/OWB to see if they've updated the 247/28 backplate to accomodate SH's newer larger pullstart crank pins.
