5309 vs 5308?
I would think that the older version would be faster on top end since it should be lighter, unless theres a different gear setup...Has anyone put them to the test?

Yes, the taller tires in essence gives you a taller gear. However, if your adding weight, the motor might not reach its highest output.

RE: 5309 vs 5308?
I got mine to about 60mph,IDK how accurate it was.we tested it on the old free way,no one really drives on it we seen maybe 10 cars max.
Mine is the 5309,I think its a lot better than the 5308,I have a friend with the 5308 and his is about the same wait and besides it not being water proof it bottoms out and gets high centered a lot more.
Oh ya Glad to see some body looking for nitro,I love mine...

dude 60 with the stock 5309, thats a really good tune and a really flat surface, not to mention you would probablly need a much more powerful motor and some different gearing setups!

RE: 5309 vs 5308?
It all depends on what you want to use the truck for. If you are gonna leave it stock(HA!) and want more top end-ish, get the 5309 with the taller tires, or just get a different gear setup for the 5308.
I was using a 15/40 on my 5308 because I only bash mine and just the 2 additional teeth was a difference I could notice on my low end. Now with my Mach .28 I run a 18/34 setup and cant keep the front wheels down even on loose gravel and the truck in the lowest suspension settings, and I bet its got just as much top end as the 3.3 with stock gearing, if not more!! I just gotta get my alignment right so it stops pulling so hard to the right when im on hard/grippy surfaces.
