C-17 or C-5 Kits?
Well I have been looking for a decent C-17 rc kit (C-5 would do for now) but have been unable to find one. Anyone know of good places to look online for one?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I dont think your going to find a kit for a C-17.
1 It's a four engine jet.
2 It's not very pretty "C-130 ish"
3 It's not a classic 1rst one flown in 1991.
What you need is a old retired C-17 pilot that does RC to make up a set of plans and have a wood kit laser cut. Problem is I dont think there are that many old retired C-17 pilots that do RC.
Looks like your going to have to scratch build it your self.

C-5's
I remember seeing a picture in High Flight magazine about a year ago of a model of a C-5. It was doing a low inverted pass over the runway I'm not sure if the guy built it from plans or from scratch but if you contact High Flight maybe they can put you intouch with the builder. It's a long shot but if you really want to get one built...
BTW, I'm a crew member on the C-5, If you need any info, pictures or whatever, feel free to contact me.

Worked em both...
While I was in the service I worked on both of these planes (as well as the KC-135 (A and R), the C-130 and the C-141. I could probably pull a lot out of my own head...
The reason I was asking is I saw a video while at a Jet show here in Dallas that had an RC C-17. I do not know whos video it was, or I wold try and go that route. So I know there is at least 1 in the world, now the hard part comes - finding it...
As far as the 4 engine issue, I had already figred that 2 engines would be for show. The inner engines would be for go... I have 2 ducted fan engines here already that I was pipe dreaming of fitting in for it.
Anyways, if youu run into anything I hope yo would keep me in mind...
Thanks!

C-17 or C-5 Kits?
I have plans for a C-5 from a very inovative modeler in Switzerland. The plans requires experience with foam. I paid for them plus the shipping. This aircraft uses 4 EDF engines.

Dave you clearly aren't a tree hugger when you harvest that much wood. But great plane. Let me know when you fly, I will watch out for the shadow. I never flew the C17 but did fly the C130. I was one of the combat vets that were interviewed for design and performance specs on the C17. One thing we asked for but did not get was Ejection seats. People wanted to know why since it was designed to carry passengers. But in SEA when we flew a high risk mission it was minimum crew and chutes were the order of the day. There was no way out for the pilot/nav/eng, other than running to the rear of the plane for bail out. The crew door was directly in line with #2 engine. Bail out would be ok there if the engine was off. Enough babble,, now please post more pics. Thanks Nice plane.. Will you take it to Bomber Field for the war birds? Jim

C-17 or C-5 Kits?
Hi Jim,
Well to answer the question that you ask.
I am living across the Atlantic, but in 2004 (next year) I am looking at taking off 2 months to do a load of events with this and other models. But am trying to get the time firstly of from work and secondly getting the models over to the USA by freight and the only way this looks likely is to ship my Van as well in sea cargo then follow by Airline.
The next thing I have to do is to get show and event organisers in the USA on board to book it during my visit which looks like any time between April - September next.
I will keep you all posted on how this goes.

So what does it take to get you to bring this to our jet rally and fly? Our event is September 10-12, 2004.

RE: C-17 or C-5 Kits?
Hi Steve.
I was away on vacation last week. I have taken a look at the Ozark Mountain Jets
web site and would love to bring the C-17 if I can get a few other event organisers on board. I will let you know. In the meantime, can you post to "C17A 'Globemaster III' . . . .BGC !!! "
email me with any more details.
Cheers,
Dave
