Default Robart hinge install idea

I used small O rings as spacers while installing the Robart hinges on my ailerons today. It worked great it keeps the glue out of the hinge and gives you the proper spacing if you need more you use two O rings. When the glue dries you can cut or pry them off , or leave them on the hinge. You only need to use them on one side of the hinge.

Wow! Why did you not come up with this idea a long time ago! lol, jk.

That is awesome idea. No matter how much I lube the joints, always seem to get a tad of epoxy on them. This is an awesome idea.

Thanks

Excellent idea. Much less messy and reliable than vaseline.

Great idea indeed!! Do you also have a methode to align those hinges and prvent them to rotate avoiding friction/binding if their axles are not perfectly aligned??

Thanks and best regards,

All you need to do is flex the control surface a few times before the glue cures, and the hinges will rotate into place.

I've been using a similar method for years but instead of orings, I use a piece of tygon tubing cut to the correct spacing length. Not only does it set the perfect surface spacing but it also keeps the glue out of the hinge joint. Once cured, simply cut off the tubing.

Thanks for sharing...............
Silicon tubing also works well and it's a little more flexible than tygon.

another way to do it is I take and cut vinyl gloves to approx 1 in square peices and place over hinge and glue in keeps the glue out of the hinge joint when glue is dry just pull off i do this after i have hinged the flap, rudder etc and i know the hinges are properly aligened and not binding

Thanks Eric,
The wings are ready for servo's , I got the control surfaces hinged and installed in less than two hours.
Just need to do the rudder.
Regards.

yet another way is to clean the epoxy off the top section of the mounting holes, with cotton swabs. Make sure the cleaned section is about 2-3mm deep. Then insert the hinge. I also install one side of the hinges at a time and make sure the glue does not flow into the joint points of the hinges (before dry). This is easily done by keeping the wings etc vertical.
