Default What is it exactly ?

Does anybody know what Top Flite LustreKote Spray Flat Clear is exactly ?
Is it a Lacquer ? Can it be top coated on all other paints and finishes with out damage ?

Thanks for help !

I do not know EXACTLY what it is, but I can tell you it is lacquer based. Unless you are using Lustercrap under the clear, do a test panel FIRST (better to find out on a test panel than the plane).

FWIW - Most auto parts stores sell a clear ACRYLIC ENGINE ENAMEL. I have found this stuff to be compatible with MOST paints and is fuel proof for 10% nitro.

Campy: are you recommending the automotive now vs the blue miniwax polycrylic?

Put Lustercoat on top of the wrong paint like an enamel and it will be just like paint stripper. Test before use.

I have used it over cured Behr exterior latex with no problems. I have used it over Krylon with no problems.
I use it to fuel proof and seal computer generated decals - both ink jet and dry (ribbon) inks with no problems.

Trick is to spray light coats (2 or 3) rather than one heavy coat.

However, for my last painted project I used Varathane Diamond Floor Finish water based poly-u over cured Behr latex
and it is working out just fine.

Works for me.

Dan, you mention using Krylon paint with the Top Flite Flat clear over it.

Which type ? I think there are many to pick from (Krylon)

Hi guys.  I have painted 1 model and I am about ready to paint my second one.  On both models I covered with koverall and then Minwax Polycrilic.  I then painted with paint the local auto parts store mixed for me.  It is an acrylic enamel.   I find it to be fuel proof to 15%.  I have not used a top/clearcoat because my finish is a high gloss already, and is very hard.  I am interested in seeing if a clearcoat will give me more of a high gloss.   Auto clearcoat is very expensive.  At least, I have not found any that I can get in a small quantity.
I also read one of your postings where you applied a poly over the paint?  Did you do that in place of a clearcoat?
And I have never seen a blue minwax poly.  Is that like a colored dope?
