There are no weak points. Probably the rear bumper assembly, but I just put a bunch a pull ties on it and it's held for a year. I beat the tar out of this thing. I added a nova cooling head too. Thats really the only thing i've done to mine.

I can keep the temps down at around 220f. But the truck acts like it's pulling lead weights Around but if I run a consistant 256-265f(I know pushing the temp range) it runs like a champ. So far I haven't had to do a lot of tuning. I cut out the windsheild but it'll run all day at 256-265f.
I've tried to richen it up an hour and the temp dropped back to 230f and wouldn't shift consistantly.Took FOREVER to hit second, and really didn't want to clear out.

Well I thought it was just me. ALL of my engines run high temps. doesn't matter if its an os 30, hyper 28, hpi 25 which I cooked at a whopping 350+(thats as high as my temp gauge goes) opps, or any of my mach engines(26,26ss,28) or the old wasp 28 I had.
The hpi 25 didn't finally die til 8 months later, and was run almost every day. And the one Mach26ss I was able to keep at 220ish range died at the early life if 5 gals.[&:] The rest where like 10-15 gals.

RE: just bought a mgt 8.0
I had a 8.0 for some time, I ran mine mostly stock.
Some of the weak points for me where the pins kept falling out of the drivecups, so I used some red lock-tight.
Body post broke alot.
The transmission took a crap so I sold it.
I would go with the foward only conversion.

RE: just bought a mgt 8.0
I put one red spring on each corner, Nova head, RPM a-arms, Titanium turnbuckles(not mandatory), and aluminium shock caps. Everything I did is necessary if you REALLY want to have a bullet proof MGT 8.0. Now, NOTHING ever breaks. The springs make it handle MUCH better, along with thicker shock oil. I also added a second fuel tank for extended run times. The truck handles great, drives great, and is virtually indestructible. Body mounts, rear bumpers, and shock towers are other weak links, but last I checked no one makes any upgraded parts for them. I would LOVE if RPM came out with shock towers.
