Skymaster F-18 Test flight and thoughts
I had a chance to maiden my Skymaster F-18C Chippy Ho on Saturday with flight number 2 on Sunday..
I was concerned about it's weight but at almost 43 lbs it flew extremely well! The jet rotated very smoothly and felt very tight in the air. The titan really seemed to have a good amount of power for this plane. The first flight was picture perfect, The second a little bumpy from gusting winds but still clean. On gear down, Flight number 2, the nose wheel pull pull clevis let go and the jet departed the runway to the right. I got it slowed down and it gently rolled into the grass. Not a scratch thankfully. I'd like to thank all you guys for your help and advice!
Overall it was an excellent weekend and to be honest I don't understand how the F-18 developed the reputation it has.
I have pics and a video on the way!

RE: Skymaster F-18 Test flight and thoughts
Hey Pete, congratulations on your maiden
Post pictures and videos.
I have not been lucky with my F-16. Third flight it was surprised by a tail wind during landing and I tried to abort but the 6 seconds spool up caused a landing in a soft tree, damaging only both wings leading edges.
Fortunately the fuse is OK
I ordered a new pair of wings and they will be ready in 3 more weeks so I hope she wll be flying in 4 more weeks. That's a total of 6 weeks grounded man. Too much time.

P.s Be careful with cross wind takeoff, most F-18 damage due to wing walk on takeoff or landing.

Right now I am flying it with a gyro in the aleirons, and seems that problem #1 was solved or minimized.. time will tell. Problem #2 is about to be tackled soon... I really like to see the profile of this plane flying with that tie fighter sound of his short, bifurcated pipe.

Well....
Superhornet is my favourite. It was my first jet. At the time everybody told me I was nuts to have this as my first jet and that I should try a Boomerang or similar plane....
Like said before, cross winds are touchy for this plane.I have rebuilt my missiles dozens of times, but as long as I keep rebuild those, it means the bird still flying
best regards
nuno
