It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses. . . .

That airplane had a sad end when I lost orientation one day in flight. It went straight down and buried the nose past the leading edge of the wing in soft earth. The fuselage basically exploded into little sticks between the wing and stabilizer. The tail assembly was intact, but everything else was pretty much destroyed. The engine survived, breaking only the needle valve. The nosegear retract was severely damaged, as were the main gear wires. The R/C system had a destroyed battery pack and receiver, and all servos had broken gearsets, though their cases survived.
All in all, it was quite the crash!
