Art Grabow - A good guy
I recently had some questions for Saturn Hobbies of Washington and had them answered by Art. I inquired about ordering some Ozcover and Rhinocover - Art asked me how much I wanted of each - he sent it to me before I paid him - he included the invoice with the package. All of this was by email only!!
In today's world of Pay-Pal, etc. it sure seems strange for someone to sent $40 worth of material without ever dealing with the person(me) before. It is certainly a pleasure dealing with someone who values their customers and has some trust in people. Art is truly a gem of this hobby as well as the hobby industry.
Art - the check is in the mail and I am now a 100% converted Ozcover user!!

I thank you Ron for these very kind words. I have been dealing with this covering for a few years now and i have always done business like this as I believe in trusting fellow RC'ers, and have yet to be burned. I will continue on until it proves to be an unwise way to do things, again, thank you and glad you like the covering.

I also will always be greatful to Mr. Grabow as I once ordered Oz cover and Rhino from another source who cashed my check but never delivered. I contacted Art and he saw to it that I received the product I'd paid for.

I was more then happy to help you out Rodney and I am here to say that the source you ordered from is no longer an agent for Tony and Saturn Hobbies. We won't stand for that kind of business and now I am the only agent here in the states!

Hi Art:
Interesting thread. We must be a lot alike. Back in 1978 I started Jim Messer's Quality Model Products, with the Quadra 35 engine being the first item. It was all mail order, and I sold hundreds of Quadra's before others got into the giant scale business. The first one-half year only grossed about $6000, but the following year and years thereafter were in six figures.
Now I ran this business for 12 years, (before I sold out and retired) and I got acquainted with a lot of giant scale modelers. I had about 1000 regular customers around the country, and I
extended "credit" to a lot of them. If they called on the phone, and wanted two Zinger props, or a Q-35 engine, they got them right now, up to a limit of $300.00. A lot of them said "but you don't even know me!". Suprised they were! I packaged and shipped every order the same day as received. About half were prepaid (those that came in the mail), but the phone orders were many, so all of those went out on credit. Back then, we were not set up to accept credit cards; they were kinda new at the time, and I didn't know much about them. After shipping, on every single order, I sat down and typed a "thank you" memo to the customer, and included a copy of his invoice - either paid or unpaid. This "thank you" memo was sent separately by regular mail - whereas all orders were shipped UPS.
Well - what I found out was that 99.5% of the credit customers paid within a week of receiving their invoice. We only had deadbeats of 1/2 percent of our total gross sales, so that speaks very well for R/C modelers in general -very honest and very considerate. It was a gutsy move, but it worked for us.
More than anything else, it generated a LOT of repeat business. I got to know my customers, and they got to know me. I was almost guaranteed their business when they wanted something, because it was a fast and painless process to place an order with us by phone. Everybody else in the modeling fraternity, of course, wanted the money up front. The amount of money that we got cheated out of was just a fraction of what advertising would cost to generate the additional business created by the credit extension, so in a way it all balanced out.
Ron Becker started this thread, and confirms what I'm saying. You treated him well; he appreciated it; he and others that he talks to will be back buying from you. Count on it.
Smart move Mr. Art Grabow.
