Default Need help on G20

I have a G20EI with a bent prop hub. Can anybody tell me how to remove the hub. I know it is on a taper but I can't get it to release.

Thanks
Dennis

Sound more like a bent crank nose causing the prop hub to be out of true. Most hubs are installed on a taper with some sort of locktite so apply some heat to loosen it and using a small puller should get it off. If you don't think that you are up to doing it yourself any home and garden small engines repair shop would more than likely accomodate you and possibly even without charging.

Thanks guys.
This is a freinds engine and I finally checked the manual on line and it shows using a puller. I have already pulled and straightened the prop shaft but the hub is out almost .020.
I'll try a puller tomorrow with a little heat and see what happens.

I got the hub removed today and it appears like I have a bent hub. I'm also worried about the crank. I get .005 T.I.R. on the grank right behind the taper. That seems like a lot, I was expecting more like .001/.002. What kind of runout should I see on the crankshaft?

right behind the hub is right at the edge of the front bearing...should be .000 there...Must have been some crash to bend a crank that close the the bearing....
If you're checking it in a lathe chuck there is a problem, the crank is twisted in the center...you need to check it using a 1/2 or 3/4" steel block bored for a very close fit to the crank diameter ...Stick the tapered end of the crank through the block and indicat the end of the tape, it will most likely be .000...Indicat the other end of the crank without taking the crank out of the block..Any runout there is twist in the center..Block the web and correct the twist with a hammer...Slowly....
Try to get ,000, less that .002 should be ok...
a REALLY bad crash can bent the taper in the aluminum hub....
The stud can be perfect and will still show runout when tightened into the hub, it's the nature of the design...You can sometimes get the stud to .000 by gentle tapping when the whole thing is put back together...

I have a hard plastic tipped hammer that I use for crank straightening. A brass hammer would be good too. Lead is too soft for the most part.

I clamped the engine to an angle plate on a granite surface plate and used an indicater to check the crank tip right in front of the front bearing. It sounds as if I need to remove the crank and check further right?

Yup, takes only a few minutes...Even though the engine has two front bearings a twist will still show up,...

By "twist" do you mean the front and back halves of the crank have twisted on the crank pin?
