Default How to color (paint?) zinc plating.

I would like to change the color of a large amount of RC body clips from their plain silver look to a variety of other colors, only I do not know exactly how to go about doing this.

I have hundreds of body clips like these.

I would like to change their color to give them more style. It seems, according to preliminary research, that ordinary spray paint may not stick (I could be wrong). If spray paint will not work (either because the spray paint would peel off because of the zinc plating, or because it would simply scrape off when the pins are inserted during use), is there an alternative to changing their color? I remember in chemistry type classes putting metals into solutions of some sort resulting in a changed color on the surface, would there be some chemical I could attain to chemically alter the surface color of these zinc-plated clips?

you can try and anodize the metal

2 easy how to (never tried it but it sounds very similar to gold plating which I did do once many years ago)

LMK how it turns out as I think it's a great idea and I'd actually like to do the same thing for my "shelf queen".

how did that project go? I'm something of similar situation, tho quite a very different project....

been doing research on removing zinc. you can remove zinc from the clips and repaint them to the color you want.

use vinegar remove the zinc, let it sit overnite and wash it down with water.

this link explains it better

You cant anodize steel. Anodizing is opening the pores in the metal, letting a dye soak in, then closing the pores to seal in the color. Plating is a superficial coating of a different metal, completely different.
