Default 79" Yak ARF Test flights

I have a BME 44 mounted on it, weighs 12 lbs RTF. Test flights went perfect. It flys as well or better than my 80" Edge ARF flew with a OS 160. Tons of power and lands super slow. Another
winner by OMP. I have 6 OMP planes and all have been excellent both in quality and flying.

I flew my 79" yak arf for the first time today too. Flew great! Hovers at 1/2 throttle or less with a Moki 2.1. Only flew it twice because the wind started picking up so I didn't get to try elevators and harriers.

I also have had numerous OMP planes and haven't been disapointed yet.

Thanks guys! I love to hear it when folks really enjoy a great flying plane. Also that is a very impressive weight at 12 lbs for a BME 44 gasser mounted up front! Sounds like the ARFs are coming in much lighter than the kit built versions.

I put the battery (2400 li-ion w/reg) in the wing. CG is at about 1/2" behind the wing tube. It's too nose heavy there. I will have to put weight in the back.

I've got a GS540 with a OS 1.60 with the new pipe from OMP. I can't seem to get a reliable run in the hover RPM of the motor. I've tried the Smith pipe, lower nitro, different props. Not happy with the motor so far. Thinking about putting the BME44 I have sitting on the shelf on the plane. Your opinion would be great. How much modification to make it work? Pix would be great of your install. Also thinking about the MVVS 2.15 gasser. Any opinions? Which muffler?
Thanks, Cosmo

Cosmo,

Sounds like an engine problem and not the pipes? Where did you install your pressure tap for the tank? Should be on the header. Also what fuel and prop are you using? Use only 5-10 percent nitro as the big glows don't like higher nitro. We like the APC 18-6W prop for the 160.....works awesome. Might also want to check or replace the glow plug and all the engine bolts. I had a new OS 91 which started running bad after a few breakin flights. Turned out all the head bolts were loose from the factory! Tightened them all up and all was well.

The pressure tap is in the right place. I talked to you at Toledo about this. I also tried the lower nitro and the APC prop. I'll check the bolts next. I've replaced the glow plug and use 10% Cool Power.

I picked up one of the 79" Yak ARFs at Toledo. I have an OS 160 that I was planning to use then I saw Saito has the new 2.20 coming out and thought that it would be a killer engine on one of these. I just checked Horizon's website and they say it won't be available till late May. I could live with the late May part, it was the $499 price tag I choked on. I still think it would be a killer power plant for this plane but $500 is a bit much for me. I guess it's back to the 160.

The Mark 2.10 for $249.99 from Morris is the best thing going right now for price and power.
