glueing plans down to building surface
I spray a light mist of SUPER 77 or Photo Mount on the back of the plan and let dry a little before putting down. I use Homosote as a building surface. When I take the plan up there is still tackiness from the glue on the plan, but not the board. Spread some cornstarch around on the plan and no more tackiness !
This also works on the face of the plan to glue down the wax paper if needed but I usually just tape it down. It does make a perfectly flat surface for those builders out there that like sort of thing. You know who you are.

I think he means Homasote:
http://www.homasote.com/products.html
But they make a bunch of different products. Which one specifically do you use?

Right, HomAsote. Don't know how what I buy compares to the info on that website.
It's grey cellulose and 1/2" thick. I buy it at the one remaining "old schhol lumberyard" in town. Spendy, $27 a 4' X 8' sheet, but will last forever. It's not dead flat like sheetrock but close enough for building. I admit, I send it through my 37" widebelt sander but it's not necessary. It's tough but holds pins well. Not as soft as ceiling tile but pins don't come out like foam and it will take some abuse, cutting etc.
Home Depot and Lowe's don't carry it. Good luck.

RE: glueing plans down to building surface
Hi, I Buy inexpensive cork buletin boards and remove the metal or wood framework. The cork is usually about 1/4" inch thick or so with a backing that holds pins exeptionally well and has a long life. Since the normal buletin board isnt flat in and of itself, I glue it to an appropriate sheet of 3/4" mdf to stiffen it up. Then run it through the table saw to cut it to a nice flush appearance. works great and lasts nearly for ever .
