that one wont need assembeling but if u buy cells like my last link ull need to build them

get a charger thats states its a peak charger or non timed, that means it measures the voltage and shuts off when it hits the highest voltage, a timed one just pumps electricity in till the timer runs out and usually wrecks batteries

Btw whats with the crocodile clips on some of them? My Current one is a plug which just plugs into the battery plug.

emm a peak one is about 40 min on that battery u posted a link to, timed ones might be the same but u cant tell really, and a overnight one is ****
the crocodile clips mean it charges off a 12V battery like the one in a real car of veichle instead of plugging into a wall its so u can charge ur batteries when ur out at the track or somwhere away from home

Thats the charger i'm looking at atm. It's a peak charged, but I want to charge it using my mains power. Not through other batterys (expensive), will that charge be able to charge from the wall?

Whats the point in buying a charger, just so you can throw loads of money down the toilet on batteries. Why buy batteries to charge batteries, when the whole point in rechargeable batteries was to get around batteries.

Maybe i'll be using the overnightcharger alongtime then. [&o]

this hooby is expensive theres no doubt about it, but a 12v battery charger is very hand and u can just charge it off ur car or ur parents car in my case, a wall one is about £80 and about £40 for a decent battery roughly, so have u got £120?

If u dont u could get a bigish nicd and timed wall charger for next to nothing, it would work, and you wouldnt notice to big a differance in performance untill u enter pro level

I don't understand, if you had a wallcharger why'd you need a battery? Surely you just need the wallcharger. And I don't have £120 on a battery and charger.

I'm not planning to race pro or anything, so all I need is something that charges my battery quick, and a battery that works for a nice period of time.

theres two batterys and a charge for £50 roughly, they seem ok to me, and theyll give u quick charge times and nice runtimes, they should charge in 40 mins - 1 hour ok?

as for 12v chargers, you connect them up to the battery in the car under the bonnet, they mean you can charge away from home, and you dont have to watch them, because usually u will have more than one bat pack and will be driving while its charging

But how can you be charging it off the car battery while driving? Where wud the car be and wouldn't the real car need the battery? [&:]

lmao sorri i wasnt clear before, u cant charge while driving, just when the car is parked up where ever ur racing lol, and those chargers are just to give u and example of prices, i would suggest going to a lhs and asking them what they have, theyre the experts hehe.

Thats actually about average. You dont really measure how long it takes to charge to how long it will last. It all depends on the mah rating. (milli-amp-hour).

Your charger is a wall charger, looks like an ac/dc adaptor. Probably only outputs 100 mah. Divide the mah rating of the battery by the charger output and you get the number of hours it takes to charge it.

For example. If you have a 1700ma battery, and your charger has an output of 100 mah, then 1700/100 = 17 hours.

You will need to get a hobby battery quick charger, these kinds of chargers have an adjustable mah output, some up to 8,000 mah (8 amps).

If you charge your 1700ma battery with an 8 amp charger, it will only take 12.75 minutes. But it is not advisable to charge at this rate. 4 amps is much advisable, the lower the amps the longer your battery life will last. There are much more to know in handling batteries, there is also break-in on these called cyling. Do more research, there should be a lot of that thread here already, just use the search function.

There are chargers that has dual inputs. AC/DC, you can use your car battery or plug it in the wall. Timed chargers are old style. Most new chargers have peak detection and automatic. Normally when you use your car battery, you have to open the hood of the car, so you cant drive it. That's why they made it with alligator clips. Another reason why you cant use peak chargers when driving is that when the car is running the power supply is not stable, which can cause a false peak.

For example your car's alternator puts out a number of amps per hour, this goes up as you rev the engine, this goes down when you use any electrical components of your car, like radio, wipers, lights, ac, etc, when the charger detects a drop in amps it will think that the battery is fully charge and stop charging.

Personally I have a old timed charger, where I converted the alligator clips to a 12v cigarette lighter plug. This one I can use and charge my batteries while driving.

This one is a dual peak charger. AC/DC for UK (220volts)

You can also use regular DC chargers with a Power Supply the plugs in the wall outlet. The power supply converts the wall output of 220v AC to 12v DC (like the car battery)

Another thing to point out. Car batteries have hundreds of Amps of power, my car for example has a 500amp 12v battery. RC batteries only have upto 4200mah which is equivalent to 4.2amps, it will take a lot of charging before you drain your car battery.
