CARF Rookie/ Simjet 1200 GE combo
I received my new Simjet 1200 AES GE, 80 N engine last week. It's beeing installed in my Rookie. I'm installing one servo per wing half. Also I'll install electronic brake and retract valves. No boxes, and one RX battery. This plane will hopefully become as light as possible. Anyone else who have this combo flying? Anyone else using the Simjet 1200?

RE: CARF Rookie/ Simjet 1200 GE combo
Hi Finn.
I have built a Roo that was powered by a 12 lbs SimJet 1200 and made it very light. It was the best flying Roo I have ever built. (I built 17 Roo's and 2 Rookies so far.)
Take a look at this [link=http://www.rc-unionen.dk/nytforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3356]THIS OLD THREAD FROM OUR DANISH FORUM[/link]

RE: CARF Rookie/ Simjet 1200 GE combo
Hi.
Thanks for replies. I've loked into that Danish thread. Interesting reading. Yes, I do believe my plane will do well vith the 80N Simjet, especially since it's the same weight as the original 1200.
Now my only question is how to get the ele and aile travels correct using my 9X. (This is my first deltawing) I get serious overtravel when hitting the gimball "corners". When I'm satisfied whit up ele, the travel gets way over when putting on aileron at the same time...what am I doing wrong?

Hej Finn.
I beleive the 9X is the same at my MX22. I use the dual rate program to reduce the aileron throw on a delta plane. Make sure you don't hit a button on the transmitter, because you don't want the dual rates on a button. You want the rates to be permanent.

RE: CARF Rookie/ Simjet 1200 GE combo
I'm almost done, exept I'm really srtuggling with where to place the ECU, fuelpump, solenoid valves etc. I've been playing around with many different solutions, but none seems good. Maybe I've gone "blind", and just have to start off with mounting the ECU, then mount everything else step by step... I believe that the ECU, pump and the solenoid valves will be placed inside the engine compartment, and everything else up front. I wish I could find "just the right pictures" on this forum...

I'm interested to see how this works out. It should be one very good performer. How does it look like your CG is going to come out ? I assume you are using the LIPO ECU battery that comes with the engine also? Bob

Yes, I hope it will become a good performer. Yes, I'll use the LiPo. Right now I'm not sure about the CG, but I believe it will become right on spot with a 5 cell nicad somewhere in the cockpit area. I'm installing the CARF FG-fueltank. I cut it down to 2,5 ltrs, and I'm also installing the BVM UAT.
No, its the older version W/O canards.

Hello.
I built a Graupner Harpoon a year ago. If you are interested in pictures, take a look at a thread I made in our Danish forum [link=http://www.rc-unionen.dk/nytforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4521&whichpage=1]HERE[/link]
I installed a SimJet 2300 with the old type ECU. You might find some information or pictures to inspire you build.
Have fun.

RE: CARF Rookie/ Simjet 1200 GE combo
Thanks for help! I've decided not to install the on board gas tank. This way I skip the gas valve as well. Looking insto the compartment upside down, I've mounted the vector servo to the left. The Fadec and the fuel valve are put between upper and lower skin to the right. The fuel pump in front of the engine mount. After lenghtening the cable, I'll mount the ECU LiPo in the cockpit area. Hey, I'm getting there now. One more week, and I'll have the first engine start-up. Then, if the weather is OK, I'll maiden it on the ice :-)

Mavpro I see you are using a FOd screen on your 1200. I have a 1200SP and was told that a FOD screen on the motor would Restrict the air intake too much. Have you run your motor with the FOD screen? If you have didi it run ok? Also where did you get the FOD screen or what did you make it out of.
I fly my 1200 in a Trim F-86 Sabre. The plane is 18-3/4 lbs. It performs very good in the Sabre.
Thanks
Joe

RE: CARF Rookie/ Simjet 1200 GE combo
I ballanced and weighed it today. 15,8 lbs (7,2 kg). CG perfect with both batteries where I had planned them to stay. Then, with the 2mm RX antenna 2 inches in front of the canopy, the CG was on the spot (10 cm in front of the wing tube) I hope the Simjet @ 8 kg will make it perform well. Take off weight around 9,5 kg. Of course not an aerobatic winner, but hopefully good enough? Any opinions? I also had the first engine start-up the other day. Everything worked perfectly...huhh, my heart beats like a steam engine...arenaline on top :-)

RE: CARF Rookie/ Simjet 1200 GE combo
Hi all! I did maiden the Rookie last year. I only got three flights before I understood I had to to something about the landing gear. Our grass runway is a bit bumpy, so I've installed a more rigid gear system from Omega. Seems really nice, and I'm almost ready to start flying it again. The performancee is really awesome, and the very low fuelconsumption of the Simjet 1200 makes it all perfect for me.
