3 Speed blown bearings
I just took my 3 speed transmission apart for some maintenance. The transmission has been through about 10 gallons. It has stood up absolutely fine, only when i looked inside, the 2nd gear was riding on a busted bearing. The flange from the bearing on the 2nd gear completely tore off. So the gear was basically running on a regular bearing with a shim on it. lol.
Now i looked at the price for those bearings, and they are extremely expensive. $14 for 2 bearings online. My local hobby store here in Toronto wants $24 for them. What a freakin rip off.
So i was wondering. can i just put a regular bearing of the same size in there? Doesnt look like the flange is really needed there. What do u guys think?

RE: 3 Speed blown bearings
lol yeah, the only bearings that have ever blown on my truck were the differential ones, which also caused a stripped gear. Other than that this is the first time im changing bearings.
I just looked on ebay. There are only 2 sellers offering these bearings. Innovative-rc: $17 for 2 (plus shipping) and rcmaxpower: $21.50 (+ shipping).
No way im paying that much.
