Default Aeroworks 72" yak with evolution 26 cc

Im looking into getting a new airplane for my evolution 26cc, i am wondering about the aeroworks 72" 90/120 yak 54. Engine set up i believe is around 43 ounces. has anybody out there put a evolution in one? or any other small gasser? I am worried about the extra weight of the gasser.

f4urak,

Since the model pictured below is no longer available in the USA, I'm posting it only for you to compare size and weight to any model you may decide to buy.

Ultra-RC Giles 202, Wingspan 76 inches, weight 11.25 pounds, Wing Area 1100 sq. in., MVVS 26cc gas engine with standard MVVS pipe, APC 18x6W prop.
The model is a very good 3D performer at this weight with the MVVS 26cc engine. However, without the pipe its 3D performance might be borderline.

If you are going to use it without a pipe then the RTF weight, less fuel, needs to be less than 10lbs or punch out from hover will be weak.

A guy at my club has that exact setup (no tuned pipe), it flies but it is nowhere near 3D performance, I have tried an EVO 26 in 2 planes trying to get some good stunt/3D performance but I finally gave up and went to the 50cc class and I just use my 26cc's for sport planes now. I am also hampered by my altitude of 5400 ft here.

Definitely keep it as light as possible, and get every bit of power out of that engine that you can.

it depends of what kind of flyer you are...3D will not work with the evo, you will need a DLE30 or MT35. For IMAC, etc the evo will do it just fine.</p>

You may want to go to a 30cc or 35cc engine as suggested above if you don't want to bother with the tuned pipe.
However, now that you've purchased that expensive 26cc engine you probably don't want to set it aside. From my personal experience I know that the MVVS 26cc/Horizon Evolution 26 will turn an APC 18x6 wide prop at 8800 rpm with the standard pipe and carb and will 3D the Giles shown in my previous post.
If you want to make it produce even more power you can change the carb and modify the pipe as described on the following web pages. The engine can be made to exceed it's maximum recommended rpm.
