H9 33% Extra w/ZDZ 80 owners....
Guys,
I just ordered the new H9 33% Extra and I'm using a ZDZ80 for power. Single, not the twin.
Anyhow, I wanted to know if anyone could tell me what length (if any) standoffs are needed for this combo.
Also, does this plane come with hinges, or do I have to buy them myself?
Is there anything else I need to purchase that would NORMALLY come with an ARF? I'm not talking about control horns, fuel tank, etc, but how about a tailwheel? How about main wheels?
I ask because I noticed that Hangar 9 sells a seperate hardware package.
I really don't need the hardware package because I already have Rocket City hardware, Airwild MLP arms, etc.
Thanks for any help fellas.
P.S. If anyone has any VALUABLE building tips that might save me some heartache, please share!!

Hi Paul I just built one it seems to be a nice kit but it has no hardware you will need everything that come in the hardware kit are a substitute the owners manual has a complete list of items needed to finish you can go to the horizon site and see the manual. As far as standoff go it is 1 1/2" for a zdz 80 but that put your mixture adjustments right at the firewall I ended up moving my firewall back inch and used 2 1/2 stand offs not a must but with our changing weather conditions here. I need to be able reach the mixture screws. Mark,

Thanks cubdriver,
Do you happen to have a pic of the bottom of the plane, or know where I can see the bottom color scheme on the internet? Thanks.

Hey Paul Mine is solid red on the bottom now. Here is the wing before I removed the strips.I plan on some stars or invasion strips something with better contrast. Mark,

Mark, I like your idea on the bottom of the wings, the existing design leaves a little to be desired. I have one with a ZDZ-80 and it is great !!will do anything the piolot is capable of handeling. I had a problem seeing the bottom of the plane and went to red & white stripps. As far as the firewall is concerned, I cut mine out in a "U" configeration to allow for the throttle and mixture adjustment screws, and laminated another pc. of 1/4" ply to it. used 1 1/4" X 1" round oak for standoffs,(the origional firewall looked a little on the flimsey side to me). By the way, Chief now offerd an alum. standoff kit for the ZDZ-80 in the 330s that used the existing firewall holes. wish they had it 2 months ago.
Paul, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. They are GREAT PLANES !!! opps[X(] ? But saying "they are Horizon don't get it."

What's the deal with the standoff kit from Chief Aircraft? From the pics on their website, it just seems like they are trying to sell you a regular set of standoffs for 50 or $60.
Anyone can get a custom set of standoffs in any length and color for $30 from Aerografix.
Is there something about this kit from Chief that is different than just a regular set of standoffs?

I think the kit from Chief uses the original gt80 holes that are already in the Extra. Just makes it so you don't have to drill your own holes for the zdz. Just paying for convenience basically.

Stock Location, I placed two 6 volt batteries on out side of the motor box, my 4.8 ignition battery and the small 6volt smoke battery is in the box. I had to add NO weight anywhere. the thing balanced perfect....................

Just curious,
Are you guys mounting the ZDZ inverted or horizontally? For you noise challenged folks, will this plane take canisters?
Good luck on your endeavors!

H Wayne,
Do you think that I could avoid having to put all the batteries up front if I went with a pull pull rudder system up front? This is what I plan to do as of now. I just hate it when I have to put batteries all in the engine box area.
