Somethin Extra w/ Saito 72??????
I just bought a Sig SE ARF. I am going to put a Saito 72 on it. I just wanted to get some feedback and see if anyone has tried out this set up. I also need to know what prop would be good. Is tailweight needed? Where to mount the switch and charge jack? Any suggestions for first flight?
I might have forgot to mention that this is only my second plane! Hee Hee. I hope I can keep it together!!!

The tailwheel mount supplied in the kit is crap, and will break your rudder at some point. Invest in a proper tailwheel bracket.
The stock gear and wheels barely leave enough room for an 11" prop. You'll not have enough clearance for the bigger props you'll be running. Invest in a set of taller landing gear from TNT. Some people have left the pants off and switched to bigger wheels with the stock gear - this is a valid option. Doesn't look as nice, tho.
13x6 or 14x5 are good prop choices for your engine. YMMV.
I have the TNT gear on mine (stock wheels and wheelpants), a Dubro tailwheel bracket and a YS .53. I'm comfortably swinging a 13x5 wood prop with great results.
I put my tank back near the CG and my switch up where the tank was. My rx and battery are lashed to the servo tray in front of the servos... no extra weight was necessary for balancing.
This is your second plane? Hmm. Make use of the dual rates until you get used to the plane's roll rate.
Camber mixing! If your radio supports it, set up a switched mix which couples the flaperons to the elevator. This helps to tighten your loops, whether inside ot outside. Another switched mix which gives you a couple degrees of down elevator and spoiler is a nice way to shorten your landings.

Somethin Extra w/ Saito 72??????
Dynaride,
I have the some combo.
It is awesome!!!!!
It hovers very easy at a little more than half throttle.
I use an 13x6 apc prop.
Just great!
Fitted some larger wheels and i have no problem with prop clearance.
I don`t remember the size of the wheels, i can look it up if you want.
You really have to keep the rates LOW.
Than it flies very easy.
It is the easiest plane i own.
But when you go to high rates this plane goes wild!
So be warned and use some low rates and you will love the plane.
You can fly her real slow for landings (almost like an trainer).
I didn`t need any tailwheight with the saito up front.
Also make sure you get the C.G like stated in the manual.
Good luck with your maiden flight!
Cheers,
Edwin

I also have this same combo. I love it. I plane balanced with no weight. It does wonderful torque rolls with the Saito up front.

Somethin Extra w/ Saito 72??????
A guy at our club had the SE ARF with the Saito 72 and loved it. He had a Rossi 45 sitting around and decided to give that a try....he went right back to the Saito after one day with the Rossi.

Here's the nose of my SE. I've flown it with the pictured 13x5 prop - notice the lack of dents

I ended up putting a YS 63FZ on mine instead of the Saito and it is a blast. Vertical is unlimited. I am having trouble finding the right amount of throttle to get it to hang in a hover though, but too much power is something I am not going to complain about!!!

I'm getting that dang gear! I've got a new SE comin tomorrow, my old one is worn out from getting dragged back by a limbo pole(not the pole, the tape that goes across the poles, it was like tape). And of course I'm going to rebuild it!

side views, comin up.
But of course.
I just posted a note about my one SE crash in your SE crash thread.
In the front-view of my SE there's a silver scuff visible on the engine's valve cover. Its a souvenir of that tail-touch incident
