What prop to use for a ZDZ 40

RE: What prop to use for a ZDZ 40
what RPM are you getting with that 20x10 ?? I ask because you may be very low in the motor's power-band with that 20x10,,, so I agree about the 20x8,,,
an 18x 6 would be to small, even an 18x8 would really rev, so I would say an 18x10, 20x8, 20x6 or 21x6,,,
from what I have read about the ZDZ 40 (on the ground) with a 20x8 you should get around 7700 maybe a bit more (that would be the Zinger 20x8 pro) this would unload to about 8000/8100 in flight,,,
like my PA Gee Bee Y if your plane has a lot of drag and is slower then you may want to get your RPM down to around 7800 in flight, there is no need to over rev~ wasting power and RPM on a high drag plane, maybe then try a different brand prop that pulls a little more...

If you need the RPMs try the 20X8. Anything smaller is a waste of power; you will be too low in the power band. If your plane is less than 11 or 12 Lbs. wet it will do extreme aerobatics, anything heavier will be somewhat sluggish.
A Zinger Pro 20 x 10 should turn about 7600 RPMs on the ground, but will not produce more than 23 Lbs. of thrust. Have you tried a Bambula 20 X 10? This prop will be closer to the rated output of this engine. Around 7400 RPMS and over 25 Lbs, of thrust. That power will hang a 17 Lbs. plane on the prop.

I don't think a ZDZ 40 will pull a Zinnger 20x10 pro at 7600,, see link..

I have the 40 on a bennet muffler. Dick, what kind of can should I use with this? It is on a H9 260 and I am running an airwild 21-8 and the performance just isnt what it should be. I have also tried a zinger 20-10 and it was about the same. I have had other 40s that were screamers. This plane is only 13.9 lbs and should have great power but it doesn't. I think I had 20-8s on the other 40s so maybe I should get another one of those and just let it rev to the moon.

So what's the high end of the RPM limit for this engine? The reason I'm asking is I was getting 6200 with a Master airscrew 20x10. I tried a master airscrew 20x6 and that pushed the RPM's up to 8150. I also tried an APC 18x6W and got 8100 RPM's. If the 8100 RPM range isn't hurting the engine I would think I'd get better performance out of the APC 18x6W than the MA 20x6.

According to RCS the upper RPM limit for the ZDZ 40 using a 20 x 10 prop should be arround 7400 RPM. 8100 RPMs seems to high to me. This may cause harm to the engine.

Right now I have a 20x10 on my ZDZ 40, I'm wondering if anyone has tried a 18x6 or 18x8 on this motor or would going that much smaller over rev the motor?
