Default Set screw in rear diff case

Gang,
What is the purpose of the set screw in the rear differential case? Im sure the front has one too but I have not rebuilt the front yet?

it is to slide the pin for the shaft in and out of the cup.

You will find that when you have to rebuild your diffs that the screw comes out and you slide the pin that holds the shaft that drives the center dogbones out through that hole to remove the shaft itself.

my mistake...Im describing the wrong screw. Im talking about the set screw that is inside the diff case on the black plastic cup that houses the bevels gears.

I know what you are talking about. Its a very small screw in the diff case. I THINK it locks the rear diff. I tightened it down and I could not spin the diff. I am not EXACTLY sure what it's suppose to do. Maybe someone will chime in and let us all know!! I have the LE if that makes a diff. Still new and learning!! [8D]
