My 0.S. .18 install into my T-Maxx
Latest Update.............
I purchased a O.S. .18tm, & a few other spares from Tower Hobbies.
Being a long weekend I decided to start the tear down on Friday night ,(after a few beers)
It was a bit cool out in the garage so I migrated to the comfort of the lounge room. Everything came out as planed except for my steering servo which fell out due to the mounts being broken off.....!!!!!!!
Now while I have everything off the chassis its a good time to install the FOC (another tower purchase), lets me state the traxxas instructions are crap. after pulling the gearbox apart its time to install.......two hours later (remember the previous beers), I think its back together Ok...!!!!
Its now 11.30 & I pack up until tomorrow.
Saturday.........
Shock refurbish time, I put in the "three hole pistons" & replace the 30wt oil with 60wt silicone oil, lets see how that goes.
I head down to my LHS to pick up a new steering servo & some new fuel line, As usual my LHS sucks.....no servos....but they can have some in two weeks....not happy jan......
I message a mate (Maxih) who I hope has a spare servo. Yep no problem some & get it. Thanx again Maxih you have come through for me again.
So time for rebuilding. But first I have to fix the wires on the easy start. & a few other little things. now I cant find the flywheel bush that goes on the crank....I know its here somewhere....I look for an hour with no luck. Now its to late to ring maxih to help me out again, so thats it for tonight.
Sunday........
I look again through all my spare parts & find the bush in the first bag of parts ......I'm sure it wasn't there last night..... So the engine goes in. Whooo I'm almost there. I recheck everything is in the right place. Opps forgot the fuel line, no biggie, easy fix.
So its time to put in the fuel & recheck I have everything ready for breaking in of the new engine......
So I heat the head with a hairdryer, (not mine, I don't need it). But it wont turn over, the easy start just clicks......Bugger I need to charge the battery.
That done, & a little smoke from the easy start, still stuck. so not a big problem. I have a spare pullstart here.....somewhere.....
Ok, engine out again, pullstart installed. Still stuck... so after reefing on the pullstart & heating the head again, its starting to loosen up. But goes hydraulic.....& I break the pull start cord....bugga again....& now I have a blister.
Motor out again, dismantle the pullstart, wrestle with that for 1/2 hour & decide to give up on that & rebuild the easy start & hope for the best. If I cant fix it I'm sure maddiesdad has a spare.
I fixed the easy start, re-installed the motor, .......& nothing just clicking....
Pull the motor out again...pulled the easy start off...& for some reason its jammed. I pulled that to bits, & bench tested the motor...It worked. But when its back together it jams up. I pull it apart again.
Now everything is back together & reinstalled on my T-Maxx. But now dark so the break-in will have to wait until tomorrow.....If it works at all...
Wish me luck........................

heheh,, yup the 18tm is a tight engine,, i have the same problem with it,, even after running about a gallon its still tight,,
my ez- start also had the same problems,, it starts to smoke and usual pains like yours,, so now i dont use it,, instead i just plug in the 9v battery to the motor,, its better than the ez-start but still takes me about 5 mins to stat it heheh
have fun

Monday........
it lives....started up after the heat treatment ......
now had four tanks in it & I couldnt be happier....Whooooo!!!!!!!
The o.s. is certainly a tight one.......Even after the four tanks I still have to heat it up to start it
