Smoked mamba max esc!!
Okay, First off I have seen this problem in other threads about some body being the first one to smoke an esc but I cant find it again.
What happened: I ran my mamba max today with disasterous results. I usually use an 8-cell NIMH pack with deans connectors and have had no problems. I was so pleased with the results of running an 8 cell over running the original 6 cell that I decided to see what it would do with the full 12 cell. I got a 12 pack 4200 and plugged it in. I ran two short passes and was going to turn around and check the temps and the truck coasted to a stop. Once I got up to the truck I could see thick red smoke pouring out of the esc. I checked the motor temp and it was at 114 deg. The esc temp was at 226!!!!! I unplugged and let it cool down. Later I plugged in the battery and smoke started immediately pouring out of the esc once again with the power switch in OFF.
The set up: I have a stampede with the MM5700 motor and esc system and geared down to 19/87 gears with stock tires and rims. (esc temps 150's, motor temps at 160's, settings at: motor timing low, punch control 50%, start power normal).
The fix: I called Castle and they have the BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE that I have seen! They are sending me a new esc in the mail and a pre paid envelope to send back the old one.
The Question: Was this something that I did wrong or just a bad part? I hear about people running 12 cells all of the time and I dont want to torch another one as they might not be as helpful if I burn two in a row! ANY SUGGESTIONS? COMMENTS? HELP?

RE: Smoked mamba max esc!!
I wouldent they arent to good at helping people over there, they only focus on like 5 threads and only reply to some threads about 4 times. but anyways, the temp of the ESC is obviously way to hot. you might want to put a fan on the ESC. But to be honest if you actually want help with electric stuff go to [link=http://www.rc-monster.com/]rc-monster[/link] they really know about electric stuff. Just tell them that asianplayer sent you

RE: Smoked mamba max esc!!
Thanks, I will give RC-Monster a shot. I have seen people get a lot of help in this forum on similar problems and I know that the MM5700 is really popular with Stampede owners so I am sure that there is plenty of people that can give some advice. I really just want to make sure that the gearing is roughly correct and the battery pack used was okay. Thanks.
