We are starting to build a pair of 1/6 Front engine Dragsters, full frame, to play with at charity shows and such.
We are not planning on running any competition with them as of right now.

I am looking for a powerful electric motor to be able to do burnouts and have general fun with these cars.

What motor do you recommend and what differential would stand up to all that HP?

Why use a differential at all if it's going to be a dragster? Dragsters usually don't have diffs.

If you insist on using a diff then try looking at the ones HPI uses for the Baja or FG uses in their offroad cars.

I am not sure I can get a chain or gear setup to fit if the motor is sideways.

Unless I can find a motor/gearbox/axle combo or motor - axle combo that can be trimmed off to fit the small stance of a Dragster.

Why front mounted engine?
How about a solid rear axle fitted with a spur gear connected to the motor pinion.
That would give more power ouput than losing through a diff etc
