Default RC Model for display - Nitro or Electric?

Hello!

An odd question to many, I appreciate, but I'm a 40 yr old who likes models but rarely builds or uses them - my son has little interest, which is unfortunate for me but I still like to have them around as display pieces in my study.

By way of background, I have a couple of tanks - one completed Heng Long Tiger 1 with full metal options and a Panzer III with all the parts, paints etc awaiting assembly. I also have a few aircraft awaiting build and one day I will start them and rekindle the years in my childhood when assembling models was a major hobby for me...I still like to see the boxes on the shelf though as they remind me I have new toys. I also have a couple of Walkera RC helicopters; the 22e having never been flown yet!

I now want to get an RC 1/10 scale car for display and I am torn between a Tamiya 58393 BMW Z4 M Coupe TT01 electric car and a Kyosho Fazer Aston Martin Racing DBR9 Nitro. I own a 1:1 Z4 ///M Roadster but there don't appear to be any RC models of that apart from the obvious toys and the Aston is the brand of car I aspire to own one day, so a model would be nice for now.

I'm leaning towards the Nitro purely for the realism - am I wrong to think that? I would maybe run it a couple of times just for novelty value but it would never race - unless, of course, my son takes a shine to it although he is perhaps too young at present.

Also, what is the difference between the Fazer and FW-06 models in the Kyosho range?

Thanks in advance for all replies

S

if u think ur son might get into it, go with electric so he starts out slow and works his way up. also electric is cleaner and looks better imo, and u can also go alot faster with electric. and alot easier to maintain and work on.

He said its for display.nitro does not look more realistic ecept the exhoust.a nitro engine does not look like a 1/1 car engine.

True, but it is an engine and therefore more impressive to view than an electric motor. At least that's my take on it. That said, I'm now thinking the electric RC might be a better idea anyway.

If it is never going to be run, I'd go for the nitro.
But be careful, even if you are just buying it 'for show', you might find yourself running it one day... it's addictive.

Based on your requirements that it will be up for display and that u may one day run it, I've shortlisted 3 cars for you that are truly remarkable in terms of their attention to detail (in my opinion). I said "in my opinion" because I'm sure there are other really beautiful models out there with their own unique features and I don't want to offend anyone. The bodies are fully finished - painted and stickered at the factory and once the chassis has been built, u just have to mount the factory-finished shell. I keep all 3 of them as displays. Here goes:

Tamiya Corvette C5-R on TA04S http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...oduct-id=58272
Reason: Beautiful scale-like officially licensed replica of the infamous race car. It comes with a TA04S belt driven chassis which you can still find spares and upgrades for. Only problem is that it has been discontinued for a few years but you can still find one every now and then on eBay. They are becoming more expensive as they become rare.

Tamiya Mercedes DTM Original Teile http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...oduct-id=58279
Reason: Coming from UK, you might be quite familiar with this one - it is the car with the famous paint scheme of mechanical parts like shocks printed on the body and the graphic of the AMG engine exploding/ripping out of the hood. This Tamiya factory-finished replica is argubly the most exquisite polycarbonate shell from Tamiya in my opinion. Although the picture does not do service to the paint scheme, it is very detailed and intricate. This is because the unique feature of this shell is that it is not your typical painted and stickered shell - it appears that the tiny details are factory printed and if u run your fingers over the shell, it feels smooth and not like stickers. I can take some close-up pics the next weekend if you are interested to show u what I mean. The bigger graphics are normal stickers and you can feel these. Same TA04S chassis as above. They are discontinued also. By the way, this completed body is available on a nitro version if that's what you fancy, but it'll be a pity to cut the refueling and ventilation holes in this beauty.

Tamiya Lancia Delta HF Integrale http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...oduct-id=58342
Reason: Another hot favourite from your time. You will probably remember the original release from Tamiya when you were actively playing with them. This one has been re-released on a TT01 chassis with a Factory-finished body. Very life-like front lights, grill, wheels, tires and roof spoiler and comes with driver. The TT01 is still current and there are no problems with part and hop up availability. A cheap and good beginner chassis for your son but it has a very basic suspension without oil shocks. Although the site says they are discontinued, you can still find them in stores all over the world.

Good luck choosing one and shout if you want some high definition photos.
